What I Wore: Madeline Dress
Details: dress – vintage, bag – vintage, shoes – Target
It’s getting close to not being dress safe in my little city, so I’ve been having fun getting dressy at work while the summer sunbeams are still strong. I found this while I was foraging for dresses in the city, and as soon as I saw the collar I was a goner. I thought it was straight out of Madeline & Amber thinks it looks like it’s from Sailor Moon, but it’s not quite Halloween costume material either way.
Maybe if I added a yellow hat? :)
The bag is one of my favourites because it was a friend’s father’s school bag when he was a little boy. It’s eye catching to begin with, but when I imagine it being taken to school like a tiny suitcase it’s instantly a hundred times more dear.
soooooooo, i saw this one come into my email back in Oct (still can’t believe its almost mid Nov) and swooned away over it! it’s girly, pleated perfection and i don’t know anyone else who’d look as darling as you do wearing it. little bag has me on a nostalgia bender right now, i used to play doctor with one similar when i was little. between your story about its origins and my own memory recall it undoubtedly adds a lot of character to this already charming ensemble.
This dress is SO, SO darling, Kyla! And the story behind your bag is so sweet! You look fabulous!
Ah, Madeline! Oh how I loved those books and that dress looks adorable on you. I do think that a yellow hat would just perfect it that much more :) It’s definitely not dress weather here anymore. Well, unless I pair it with tights and boots!
Side note: my brother played in a bike polo tourney a few weeks ago and said he met a bunch of guys from your town. Just thought it was fun and worth mentioning. xoxo
my god, you’re super cute. love the dress, kyla!
I really like that bag and its adorable story. My best accessory story is probably about an REI down vest that my mom got when she was about 17 and which now lives in my closet for chilly fall days. I love wearing it and being connected to her old ski trips and hiking adventures. I think I’ll need to take some pictures of myself in it and find some of the old ones of her, too, to put them side by side :)
Oooh,pretty dress! :)
That dress is just way too adorable. Only you could pull that off! Love it.
Add a yellow hat & you are ABSOLUTELY Madeline. Or Samantha from the American Girl doll collection!
Madeline is my FAVOURITE. Absolute favourite! You look lovely, that blue colour is so perfect.
You need to find the yellow hat and a friend to dress as a nun! And if you had a second dress I would fly to winnipeg so we could walk in two straight lines. haha.
As for a fave vintage accessory – I was thrift shopping with my cousin and we both found things we loved but couldn’t spend the money on. We decided it would be acceptable to trade christmas gifts and she bought me the gorgeous necklace, and i got her green velvet pillbox hat :)
Oh how I love Madeline! Such a cute find!
Beautiful! I think the dress is far from Halloween and right on the perfectly acceptable daily wear and cute line.
Oh that’s absurdly cute and the colour is amazing. Kudos on the great find!
I could never, ever, EVER pull off that style but you do it so effortlessly. :)
Kyla, I have the PERFECT yellow hat you could wear with this to be Madeline! Too bad you probably wouldn’t get it in time if I shipped it to you. :( But regardless, you are so charming in this dress! It’s very unique and cute, without being too cutesy, if you know what I mean. Love!
I love Madeline! This dress is so perfect. :) You’re rockin it, girl!
You pull that look off so well! I love it!
i love my gucci satchel that my grandmother gave my mother the christmas after i was born. i guess she was very happy to have a granddaughter- i feel like it’s technically always been my bag.
I do have a favorite accesory. It’s a bracelet that my grandmother gave me, which was given to her by my grandfather when they were dating in 1950. It’s a gold snake that sort of wraps around your wrist and is so unique. I love that my grandmother was so sassy with her style :)
The dress is adorable – I think you do need a yellow hat to go with it :) And I LOVE that bag! I don’t wear much in the way of accessories – the only oneI own with any sort of history is a gold watch that used to belong to a great grandmother I never met. It’s too big for me (and I don’t want to take out any of the gold links!) so I never wear it but it has a place of honour in my jewellery box!
That’s a really cool story about the bag, it is a million times more dear once you think of it as a tiny suitcase!
I love the shoes.
Oooo! You should check out the polyvore board I have saved in my pinterest. It’s for a Madeline costume & super cute, I think it might help inspire. http://pinterest.com/lwolcott/costumes/
I entertained the idea, but instead I’m going to be a *drumroll* lion tamer! Oh Halloween…. :)
What a perfect dress!! I would love to score something like that while foraging for dresses. That is a perfect Madeline dress for a costume. You could add that yellow hat, and a red cami in place of her red tie and be good to go! :) How awesome to have a special bag like that! You’re right, it is very eye catching (was the first thing I noticed). How do you like your Target oxfords? I was looking at those online recently. Are they comfy?
Oh, that dress is beautiful! It’s so floaty and feminine (^_^) I have a really old carpet bag in jazzy colours that my Mum used to use when I was a baby – now I use it to lug my stuff around in! It’s really stood the test of time *grins*
