✳ One of the things that I love most about baking & cooking is that it gets me to try foods I wouldn’t normally dive into willingly. It was LA’s birthday last week and I made her a banana cream pie, which is her favourite but something I’ve never tried or been drawn to. But once I was in the grocery store buying perfectly ripe organic bananas and leaning over the stove as the sweet smell of vanilla pudding made from scratch wafted around me, I couldn’t help but want a piece. It took a lot of will power to deliver it without a piece missing!
✳ If I had a super power, it would be napping. The amount of sleep that I’ve caught up on in the past two days is a little terrifying.
✳ While working over the weekend I started watching Torchwood, and the amount of love I’ve developed for the show in such a short time has elevated me to an entirely new level of geekdom. It has a dark sense of humor and a really cute male lead who’s written to be the dashing, charming, cowboy type- only he likes boys and girls. I love any show that undercuts stereotypes with its LGBT characters (hello, Max on Happy Endings!) and I’m in heaven that I’ve found that in a show that’s charming, a bit scary & very geeky. At the same time, I’m afraid that this is a gateway to watching Dr. Who. Please keep my family & I in your thoughts.
✳ Being able to walk over to Amber’s place to make brunch is one of the best things ever, especially after 7+ years of being close friends who lived on opposite sides of the country. Also, it is now a universal truth in my life that everything tastes better when made with a cat spatula.
✳ Mal’s elbows are a little irritated from lying on our hardwood floors, so he’s wearing little boy’s clothes again! I’m not pro-dressing up my little dogs, but when he’s wearing a shirt that says “Some of My Best Friends Are Invisible” I really can’t handle the cute. I’m bracing for baby fever to set in again!
It’s better to go from Torchwood to Doctor Who than the other way around, because really… nothing compares to the doctor. Join us, join us, join us… you won’t regret it :)
I’ve NEVER had eggs benedict! I don’t even know what it is really… although I keep hearing about it. lol maybe I’ll google it.
Ahhhh, Captain Jack… but, seriously, WATCH DR WHO! Torchwood is good, but Dr Who’s stories are spookier.
Mal looks so cute! I’ve never thought of using black beans in brownies, but will have to give it a try for a gluten-free friend. Thanks!
Okay, that cat-ula just kills me. :) And I need to make some of those brownies! Jay and I have so many bags of black beans that we are trying to figure out what to do with. We were thinking of making a whole bunch of bean veggie patties, but now that I know there is a dessert option…
Torchwood is brilliant. John Barrowman is fantastic too, if completely insane (if you’ve ever seen him being interviewed, you’ll know what I mean). My Dad once queued behind him in a pet shop. Oh, the brushes with celebrity.
If you like Torchwood, you should absolutely watch Dr Who. It’s the best thing on TV. Fact.
Love the post!! The pie looks absolutely delicious on tne other hand I am scared to try the bean brownie :S :) My super power will be to stay awake all the time. I like to sleep when i really have to
The black bean replaces the flour and makes them gluten free- and they’re *amazing*! You dont taste it at all, scout’s honour :)
I ADORE Torchwood! So excited that you have discovered – and love – it.
Your pup in that shirt is adorable!
I started watching Torchwood after Doctor Who, Jack is such a heartthrob. But I agree with everyone else, go and watch Doctor Who! You won’t regret it :]
Aw thats so sad about Mal’s elbows, but the shirts are freaking adorable!!!
That food…looks amazing!
I think I’ve had the nap super power this past weekend, my husband keeps telling me its just my body finally catching up on rest.
I completely forgot the black beans needed for black bean brownies. And a bag of split peas. Oi.
I’m totally drooling over the food. And, I just had dinner!
That cat-ula is freaking hilarious! Seriously… where in the world do you find things like that?!
Kacie
Ah, weekends. Love it. A friend of mine is actually doing a miracle fruit party this upcoming Sunday, I’m bringing unsweetened grapefruit sorbet. :)
I’m a huge Ianto girl :). Cap. Jack is dreamy, but Ianto and his three piece suits? Swoon.
And I second Amanda – WATCH DOCTOR WHO. It was too overwhelming for me to watch all of it, like all the way back from the 60s, so I started with the new series that started in 2005. It’s just so, so great.
I just started the second season, and Lanto is only starting to become less of a bus boy- I’m excited to see where that character goes. I think I’ll start looking for the 2005 series of Dr. Who as well, I’ve watched a few episodes with a friend but they were out of context so I didn’t get drawn in. If I start from the beginning I’m sure I’ll be a goner- for better or worse! ;)
I LOVE IANTO! He is a doll & both Torchwood {original} & Doctor Who are a family favorite– ironically I just posted about our dog Poosh…awesome that you are discovering it!

I just started watching Torchwood BECAUSE of Doctor Who. Captain Jack made me so happy when he popped in, so I’m glad to be able to see more of him!
Looks like a great (and delicious) weekend! I love cooking new things too. I just cooked up some ramps I got at the farmers market- soooo delish!
Torchwood is excellent entertainment (I’m quite partial to Owen. ooh ooh and the episode CountryCide is amazing story telling) and I gotta say, if you like it you will love Dr. Who. ;p
I watched that on the weekend, it was wild! The 1940’s episode from the first season was my favourite- I want to go back and re-watch it, but since starting the second season and Spike from Buffy is on it? I can’t turn it off!
I’m such a hopeless nerd- and I’m glad to be in good company! lol :)
Oh my gosh the “cat-ula” had me cracking up! Glad you got lots of rest this weekend – and feel free to share that brownie recipe!
WATCH DOCTOR WHO! You will not regret it one bit! Seriously the best show ever.
Um, you totally need to spawn little Kylas and Jesses. OMG, I already can’t handle the cute. Sigh. I have baby fever like woah right now.
I’m right there with you! About a month ago my baby fever was out of control, but it’s calmed down temporarily. In my head I know we need to wait until the business has grown and stabilized a little more, but my hormones don’t care or want to understand! I’m trying to distract them with interior design inspiration on Pinterest, with only limited success. Let me know if you find any tricks ;)
