Time Keeps Passing
Two of my favourite things about having people over to the house are:
- There is now enough space for three or more people to come over, sit down, and eat a meal.
- I can try out new recipes!!
Usually with work I’m pretty beat in the evenings which, when combined with the fact that I’m an early to bed, early-ish to rise type means that during the week 8:00 pm + 1 beer = Kyla passed out underneath the table, sleeping like a child.
This week we had our old landlord over for dinner so he could hang out and see the new house, and I decided to pull out Laurel’s Kitchen, a really wonderful cookbook teeming with dietary info and hand drawn page headers. I flipped it open, and there was Appley Bread Pudding. It uses a little cottage cheese, shredded apples, a tiny bit of sugar, some milk and an egg – an extremely simple recipe that you can’t feel badly about eating for breakfast the next day.
Definitely worth a peek at if you’re at the library!
For weeks we haven’t been able to buy real groceries or make real food because we were about to move, then because we were moving, and then our fridge at the new house was sketchy and we were waiting for delivery of the new fridge… being able to bake at home, and try new recipes here and there means a lot to me because it means we’re finally home.
Thank god, because there’s bread pudding to be eaten, people!
The Wedding
Things are definitely heating up with the wedding – between Thursday and Saturday this week I have three florists meetings and the first meeting was so terrible that mid-meeting I almost asked if I could just leave. I thought that knowing what kind of bouquets I like and what colours would be enough! Silly me! Hopefully the other meetings will run more smoothly, and then after these appointments I’m scheming a little with the hopes that I can get the canning for either the apple butter or blueberry jelly done.
After weeks of non-response from the church’s expensive organist we were given the green light to use whomever we like for music so we’ve locked in a guitar player! And I’m also hot on the trail of a couple of vintage cars for the wedding so….hopefully! Hopefully I can get most of this done within the next few weeks and then just relax and wait for it to happen.
The Puppies at 14 Weeks
The dogs are doing well – they have commenced in Operation Gnawing Off The Kennel Bits That Lock The Kennels, and are actively planning Phase Two: Gnawing Off The Kennel Handle Bit That’s On Top Of The Kennel And Makes Us Feel Very Tall And Tough When We’re Up Here!!
There have been fewer and fewer accidents in the house, and we’re even starting socialization classes this weekend which is sure to be a scene!
With everything that’s been going on, I’ve officially abandoned the idea of having fall stock in my etsy shop – much to my chagrin – and when all of this three months madness of puppies, houses and marrying is done then I’ll bring out all the stops.
Here’s hoping for a relaxing weekend with many projects getting underway – and for a quiet, happy Kyla in the midst of it all. Fingers crossed!
1 beer?
What???
For the flowers, you can’t just say I like white and simple (or whatever)? Esp. if I brought in a picture. I was reading your earlier post, and your wedding is on my birthday!
Oh god! Florists! Luckily I only ever had one meeting with a florist but it was three hours long and I was jet lagged to hell. I looked so awful on the day I met her she didn’t recognise me on the wedding day and asked me “do you think she’ll like it?” thinking I was one of my sisters!
My original plan had been that I wanted Australian native flowers, but unfortunately it was the wrong season. She came with her bouquet portfolio and a tonne of bouquet magazines so I basically went through and chose a shape that I liked and then told her the colours I wanted. It’s not like I know the names of any flowers or anything so the fact that she brought magazines was great so I could point out the kinds of things I liked.
Maybe you should consider getting another florist..this one doesn’t sound very good since she brushed you off like that. Has she shown you her portfolio? I think knowing the shape and colours you want should get the ball rolling, it’s up to her to suggest kinds of flowers!
If you want to see pictures of my bouquet, email me at letigreinfrance@yahoo.com and I’ll send you the link to our wedding site. But I had cascading roses (which matched my red lipstick) which had these green berry kind of things in it and my sisters had oranges roses with the green berries and red singapore orchids, which looked great against their black dresses. I was super stoked with how the flowers turned out.
Puppies. I have completely forgotten all that appley goodness bit and the wedding stuff and gotten stuck on puppies. The cutest, sweetest things in the world, but I truly think that they are minions of satan. They sneak into your life and make you think everything is okay, then they chew up everything in your house. What they don’t chew they pee on. Puppies. Sweet, cute, cuddly, big headed puppies. They are the trojan horse of house pets.
Anyway, good to meet you! I seem to have survived so far, so my hopes are high.
I feel so lucky I have a great florist. She’s my age, owns her own business and we met at the gym. Once my fiance and mother met her, they fell in love with her, too. We never shopped around. Good luck with your next two meetings – and here’s to lots of relaxing in the weeks leading up to our weddings! Not gonna happen, I know, but at least the thought of it is nice!
knowing what kind of boquets & colors WASN’T enough? i haven’t done florist meetings yet…
