This is Halloween
This Halloween was quieter than last year, and after a busy fall I was very thankful for a weekend in! I keep saying that I want to take it easy on the weekends- spending less time working on blog design and spending time with friends, Jesse, and relaxing instead. So this weekend I tried it out… and I discovered my new favourite guilty pleasure, Intervention. Then suddenly I’d knit two giant cowls and the weekend was gone! Funny how that happens, isn’t it?
For most of Halloween I knit and caught up with local blogger friends, and then it was on to my favourite little ritual: vegetarian sloppy joes and scary movies! This weekend Sweeney Todd, the Evil Dead series and The Walking Dead were on rotation (along with lots of candy!).
Here’s a peek inside my weekend…
I’m so proud of my Sweeney Todd pumpkins this year- I think I did really well, especially on Todd.
We had our first snow fall over the weekend, and while it hasn’t stayed on the ground the first of November is a sure sign that the winter will be setting in soon so I’ve planned a week with some cozy blog posts to warm up any chilly readers out there. I can’t wait to share them!
Did you treat yourself this Halloween?
The pumpkins look really awesome. I don’t think I’ve ever carved my own pumpkin.
Those pumpkins are absolutely amazing! I’m so jealous! I didn’t get a chance to carve any this year :(
Johnny Depp jack-o-lantern? I’m in love.
OMG, you carved those??!!! That’s amazing! They’re incredibly cool! Sounds like a great halloween :)
Seems like you had a great Halloween! I LOVE your pumpkins, and also the fact that you have veggie sloppy joes! MMM!
For Halloween my boyfriend and I hung out with a few friends, watched both Adams Family movies, ate lots of candy and yummy pasta, and passed out candy to the cutest trick or treaters!
<3
Wow, your pumpkins are amazing! Great job!
This Halloween was quiet for us, too, and it’s really just what we needed.
I love your pumpkins!
Your pumpkins are amazing. Wow!! Also, I love your glasses :)
Kyla, you are beautiful and talented. Don’t stop being you. :o)
Okay I LOVE the sweeney todd pumpkins. Those are amazing.
I just found you via yellow songbird…now following. :)
those pumpkins came out amazing! i watched the walking dead too! i thought it was fabulous! i’m so excited for a tv series about zombies!
Your pumpkins look great! And you are sooo adorable.
Whoa! Those pumpkins are amazing!
Glad you’re weekend was lovely! <3
oh goodness, these are the best pumpkins EVER!!! seriously… i’m in awe! ;)
your pumpkins look amazing, how long did those take you guys!? love it.
LOVE the pumpkins! They turned out fabulously.
I had a cozy weekend too – I watched some movies and dressed up simply to hand out candy. It was a little silly walking around the house in costume, but it’s my favorite part of Halloween so I wasn’t going to skip it just because I had nowhere to go. :)
Vegetarian sloppy joes! That’s something I hadn’t thought of before (what do you use instead of mince??). And those pumpkins are brilliant, hey. Good on you! :)
Great pumpkins Kyla!
This year Moira really got into the spirit of Hallowen and it was wonderful to watch. I had the best intentions to sew a costume for her but didn’t get the chance (long story, it’s on my blog if you are interested) but that didn’t diminish the fun she had.
Okay, seriously, those pumpkins are amazeballs!
Your pumpkins turned out amazing! Glad you got a quiet night in, this holiday :)
Whoa. Those pumpkins are amazing! I’m in awe. :)
My Halloween was pretty low-key. We don’t do too much for the holiday. I did get my dog dressed in a pumpkin outfit and took him for a walk. He got a lot of compliments. :)
Love the pumpkins! :) We had a nice & relaxing weekend. I wish Halloween wasn’t on Sunday because everyone pretty much stopped trick or treating around 8PM. Boo!
Wow, seriously amazing pumpkins. Saturday night we watched The Descent 2…eh. But Sunday was the real treat with AMC The Walking Dead, I’m in love!
oh i am just so happy to have come across your blog! i’m a prairie girl too! who also happens to have short hair. seriously debating growing it out – but your gosh darn cute hair makes me think i might put that off for awhile…
Ah your pumpkins are amazing! I had my cousins over for Saturday and Sunday and we actually had a ton of fun! We watched Zombieland (well, they did. I fell asleep) and ate popcorn and went to Bons and saw tons of rad costumes.
I can’t believe that you got your first snow of the year! I hope it snows here this year. I am seriously so excited for winter this year. It’s supposed to be pretty cold up here.
Those pumpkins are AMAZING.
Yes! I was waiting on those pumpkins and they did not disappoint! Sounds like a lovely weekend. Halloween disappeared in a blur of work, but I’m hoping I can slow down for upcoming holidays.
I am thoroughly impressed with your pumpkin carving skills!
I’m fairly certain that those are some of the very best pumpkins I’ve ever seen–I’m so impressed!
I ate candy corn and tried to keep my pups from barking at all three of our trick or treaters!
Those pumpkins are unbelievable.
We dressed up and went to a Halloween party. :) Then on actual Halloween we relaxed at home – just like most Sundays! Your pumpkins look great – can you believe I’ve never carved a pumpkin. Weird, right?
Absolutely amazing pumpkins! I had a very lazy Halloween as well, only I can’t watch scary movies so it was Shaun of the Dead for me. I’m glad you had a mildly-relaxing weekend! I love your blog and can’t wait to see what you post next.
You pumpkins are awesome!! I wish I had time to do that this year. Oh well. Next time….
Those pumpkins are awesome!
I’ll be in your neck of the woods Nov 11-14. Any suggestions for awesome shops to check out or great kid-friendly restaurants/cafes?
I am LOVING your pumpkin Sweeney! They look fantastic!!!!
Your pumpkin carving talent is, without a doubt, the best I’ve ever seen. You need to give classes on that, or something!
Your weekend sounds glorious – mine was very similar :)
Kyla, the pumpkins are awesome. I think you did a fantastic job.
The rest of your Halloween weekend just sounds lovely all around.
I am in awe of your pumpkin carving abilities! For serious. Those pumpkins are amazing, Kyla!
I spent the majority of Halloween afternoon and part the evening with my cousin at the hospital. The nurses in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit all dressed as characters from Alice in wonderland, which was pretty awesome.
Nice! Next year I’m going to actually try on my pumpkins. I always leave it to the last minute and wing it and then feel semi-ashamed of those triangle eyes or pathetic attempts at something fancy.
But oh, next year. You wait and see!
your pumpkins are so insane–how do you DO that?
WHAT!?! A Sweeney Todd pumpkin!? That is the GREATEST pumpkin I’ve seen! I hope you carved it with a straight razor ;)
Those pumpkins are AMAZING. Holy moley I am impressed!
Yesterday I came home and treated myself to a day alone in my condo. I did some things that I don’t love but had to be done (cleaned and ironed) and I did some things that I loved (cooked dinner, knitted, caught up on tv shows on my DVR). I was a little bummed that I didn’t go to Sunday night dinner when T texted me a pic of his niece all dressed up for Halloween… but he was just leaving his parents when I was tucking into bed with a book so I knew I made the right decision to stay home. :)
I am so jealous of your pumpkins! Also of your hair…I would love to be able to pull off short hair that well!
Completely speechless- in awe of your pumpkin carving abilities! Sounds like you had a great holiday, :)
1. The pumpkins look great, such detail.
2. Late kudos on the opening of A Little Thistle!
Love the pumpkins! My weekend was a take-home exam and Gosford Park. Thrilling to the max!
I LOVE YOUR PUMPKINS! They are so amazing. Totally awestruck.
Glad you had a lovely weekend. The pictures of you and Jesse are just too cute. :)
I spent my halloween catching up on my google reader, in sweats, and listening to scary music and the crunching of leaves as the kids paraded up and down our street this year. Too adorable really.
Dude! Intervention is SWEET. Also – Hoarders.
Those are such great pumpkins.
I tried to treat myself this Halloween. I stayed in, carved a pumpkin, did some cooking/baking, and watching lots of sports.
awesome pumpkins. wow. i actually tried out one of the frosting recipes you linked me to this weekend and it turned out delish. a lot of the weekend was quiet and cozy with just the right amount of socializing. so i’ll say mine was wonderful as well. good to hear you’re finding the beauty in going slow(er). that’s what fall and winter are all about :)
You did a really great job on the pumpkins!
OMG those pumpkins are amazing!!!!
That’s incredible!!! I can’t believe you carved that.
If I ever spend a Halloween in North America, I’ll be sure to partake in some pumpkin carving :)
