These days
These days….
I’m waiting for the spring colours to bloom. While it’s very warm my city hasn’t had the “technicolour” switch (located outside the city limits) switched on yet, and I really couldn’t tell you what they’re waiting for.
I’m taking some time to sit out in the sun on the weekend, because I’m officially more fair than the fairest foundation I’ve been able to find. I’m looking forward to looking slightly more lifelike soon.
I’m learning to draw. I’m not very good at it at all, but I think that makes it more fun.
I’m daydreaming about my bangs growing in again, but am enjoying not having to fuss with them while they’re tiny.
I’m in love with having our big swing chair set up on our front porch set up again, and will take up residence there until November.
I’m staying in my PJ’s for a good long time on the weekends, and I’ve been reading a lot more. I started a book I’ve been curious about for a while, In Cold Blood, and I’m loving it so far!
I’m thankful for friends who go out of their way to send me goofy e-mails, sweet hellos, and make me laugh.
I’m learning how to use my new sewing machine and am SO EXCITED to have one that’s not half broken and from the 1970s.
I’ve fallen squarely off the healthy eating bandwagon I was on and have started writing requests like “goat cheese- OH! And popsicles! please please? I love you!” on the grocery list.
These days I’m happy, no ifs, ands, or buts- and I hope you are too.
Have you watched the movie “In Cold Blood?” It’s so terrifying, and sad, but definitely worth watching! I picked up the book a few days after I watched the movie, but couldn’t stomach it. I think I’d had enough of the tragedy of the story for a while, but it’s on my list to read this summer!
I have watched Capote, but I’m going to re-watch it after I’ve finished the book. If you want to re-try the book I was really worried but it’s not gory at all, and the murder is done after page 60, the rest is just about the fall out for everyone involved. I’m a total wimp, but it’s do-able! =)
I absolutely loved this post. I read it, saved it to comment “when I had a moment” and then my reader promptly filled with a hundred more posts I wanted to comment on. So it’s catch-up day! Anyway, these days I think I’ve let stress and worry get to me a little too much, so this post is a nice reminder to look at the bright side, and to be thankful for all the little (and BIG) blessings in my life. :)

This is the year we intend to get front porch and back deck furniture and I can hardly wait. I’m probably just set up shop on the front porch and stay there until I freeze when winter hits.

Random but I have to ask, are those Cherrios in a bowl? Because that is my favorite breakfast cereal. And I cannot wait to see your new sewing machine creations!
They definitely are! =)

I’m so impressed that you can use a sowing machine… to me, that’s almost like magic!! Me and needles (or thread) don’t get along so well ;)
These days, I’m looking forward to my future career taking off, sooner rather than later :)
.-= Anais´s last blog ..Confession, and it ain’t pretty… =-.
lol For what it’s worth, I actually cut myself on it yesterday by putting my hands too close to the needle. I’m by no means a pro! lol =)
i want a porch swing chair SO BAD. i’m pretty sure i would be there all day long. sounds amazing!
love this list :)
.-= kelly ann´s last blog ..ban.do frenzy. =-.
I’ve just found your blog right now and I adore what I see so far (though I don’t have a mind of an 80-year-old just yet, more like a 15-year-old, sadly). I know what you mean about having pale complexion, if I don’t help myself with a bit of sun and a bit of bronzer, I actually look kind of… green! Oh, and I always thought goat cheese is actually healthy! :)
Sounds like a nice weekend, I LOVE porch swings! They are so cozy and comfy and a perfect place to neighborhood-watch (really, people watch!) on warm evenings!

I love this. Especially that last line.

I absolutely love Handmade Marketplace. I bought it a few months back and read it in a few hours.
As for the popsicles, your tweet about iced cream sandwiches over the weekend made me go get one for myself. lol. <3 happy springtime love
i totally have the “year in japan” book. i love it so much. having books with pretty pictures in them make me so happy.

How refreshing to read such a happy post! Keep enjoying it miss lady. That’s what makes this little life so fun. I’m about to start In Cold Blood as well for one of my book clubs. I’ve heard it’s fantastic!
.-= April´s last blog ..Thank you(s), epiphanies, and a HUGE break-up! =-.
I feel you on the fair thing. I was asked over the weekend if I “reverse tanned” my feet, cause they were so white.
I explained my feet haven’t seen the sun since October and then punched him in the throat.
.-= Habbala´s last blog ..Rita Hayworth gave great face. =-.
LOL Okay, you need to come up here to punch people in the throat for me, it’s official!
That cereal photo makes me want some cheerios, bad! Seriously! I used to be a cereal fiend, but I haven’t had the time to pour myself a bowl in the mornings.
How is that book? It looks like a good one to pick up for me!
.-= Alyssa´s last blog ..oh, love =-.
It’s not like a light, fun, summer read but it’s really well written. Pretty stark, but it completely reels you in. I’m glad I finally picked it up!
Glad you are getting some *you* time! <3
.-= Liz´s last blog ..Music Monday: Jonsi =-.
I’m always looking for a good book! Let us know what you are reading and if you like it!
.-= Kim´s last blog ..Mixed Emotions =-.
“In Cold Blood” is really well written, but not summer reading fare =)
You can see what I’m reading if you’re on goodreads though! This is the link
I almost bought popsicles the other day, but went for ice cream sandwiches instead. Definitely a sign the weather is taming its roar when I’m reaching for ice cream instead of hot tea!

Happy is good! Enjoy your beautiful weather, getting a glow, and crafting.

In Cold Blood is now officially added to my To Read list. :] Also, I really love the second photo with the bowl of buttons and the teal color! Pretty, pretty.
These days I’m dreaming about Paris & Rome and trying to figure out how to bring my dad to these places
.-= phampants´s last blog ..Get Over It =-.
I spent an hour sitting outside at the dog park yesterday and today I look significantly less grey. Not tanned, not by any stretch of the imagination, but slightly less dead-looking. I love the sun :)
.-= hillary´s last blog ..So I Crawl Underneath My Blanket Where I Can Hide Away I Know I Can’t Take It =-.
I LOVED In Cold Blood. I also really enjoyed The Complete Stories of Truman Capote. You should check it out.
Mmmmmm… now I think I need to add popsicles to the grocery list.
I’ve been curious about that book since a classmate did a review on it last year. Let me know what you think – is it a dry read? I might have to check it out this summer. Oh, but will it scare me, I live alone remember ;)
.-= Amber from Girl with the Red Hair´s last blog ..The Monday Meeting: Feedback, please? =-.
Ok, there is a very well established body of evidence on this blog to point to my being a complete wuss. If I can handle it, you’ll be fine!
It’s written like an incredibly beautiful novel – not dry at all – and it’s not about the murders, it’s more about the impact of the killings on the murders from their get away to when they’re captured and on the town that the family was in. I don’t do scary movies or even TV shows a lot of the time, but this is like… the difference between a horror movie and an old fashioned thriller. It was written for a 1960s sensibility, and it makes a big difference =)
This post makes me smile. Love that you’re so happy.
I’ve never heard of “In Cold Blood,” at least, I don’t think so!
And goat cheese? Who doesn’t like that!?
I’m glad you’re happy and enjoying life; that’s what we are all here for!
.-= Nora´s last blog ..Friday Confessional =-.
In Cold Blood is amazing, it’s by Truman Capote (he wrote Breakfast at Tiffany’s) and it’s one of the first ‘true crime’ novels, but it’s not scary and it’s incredibly beautifully written. It’s mostly following the killers afterward, examining the impact on them and on the town that they murdered a family in. It’s wild, definitely worth picking up.
All this sounds so perfect. I wish I had time to feel more settled but with our move coming up in less than 4 months, this is not going to happen. Plus, school is killing me these days.
.-= Stefanie´s last blog ..Home Improvement: The Dining Room Edition. =-.
You’re definitely running a marathon right now- but in 4 months your life is going to reflect all of this hard work. Just make sure you take enough time to enjoy the summer here and there too =)
I’ll write you a note for school if that helps? I’ll make it look very official! ;)
I agree with Carrie – I didn’t think I would be overly impressed by ‘In Cold Blood’ but I loved it! He reels you in so effectively.
Oh Adele, I crept through the first 60 pages like there was going to be a scene from Saw around the next corner. As soon as I realized that it wasn’t that kind of book I just started inhaling it lol
Haha, I hear you on being fair! Ten minutes out in the sun (when it’s more than 85 degrees out) and I start turning pink!
I’m trying to read more these days too. I’m going to start implementing a 25 page a night “rule” for myself. I have a lot of books I want to get through and this way it’s a manageable way to do it!
.-= Becky´s last blog ..If you like it than you shoulda put a ring on it =-.
25 pages a night is a perfect way to make sure you’re still making progress on those things you love but that can be hard to fit in- that’s a great idea! I really like to do my reading in chunks so I think I might set aside one night a week to just do nothing but read. What a perfect suggestion, thanks miss!
Beautiful post, Kyla, and I love all the pictures. I’m excited for both of us. I can’t wait to get this semester over with and just take my time to think about everything I accomplished in just four short months.

I love being able to look back, put my hands on my hips and just go “Yep! I did ALL that!”- especially with summer coming, because that built in break is perfect =)
this is so great! i’m reading more too :) and enjoying the spring weather!

Oh my goodness, it’s heavenly! And I still get the internet out there- it’s my e-mailing and book reading happy place =)
You’re eating popsicles, too? I bought a bag of the sticks you break in half from the grocery store the other day, and have made it my nightly ritual. Mmmm.
I read In Cold Blood for the first time recently, and I was surprised by just how good it was. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but I couldn’t put it down. I love it when that happens.
