How is it that a week has gone by so fast?! One moment I was trying to pack my sunhat without having it ground back into straw in my luggage and the next thing I know I’m home again, putting water on for tea while my tiny black dogs follow me from room to room.

The main difference now is that I have tan lines for the first time in probably a year. Summer in Florida really knows how to show up summer in Canada, especially when my prairie city hasn’t seen a week of sun since July. But somehow it has been a week, and the honeymoon was, decidedly, wonderful.

The Reviewey Stuff

We split our time between two different Disney resorts (The Yacht Club before the cruise & Saratoga Springs after) and a 4-Night cruise in the Bahamas, and I’ll say it now – Disney was not my first choice for our honeymoon. We have family in Florida, and family that works for Disney, so whenever we get holiday time we try to go which makes it kind of less… special.  But that being said, I was extremely impressed with all sides of our trip. We stayed in resorts I hadn’t stayed in, stuffed ourselves at the Food and Wine festival at Epcot, and the cruise?

Let me tell you about the cruise.

It was like an all inclusive version of Disney where you didn’t have to wait in line for anything. It was a silly amount of fun. There is a free movie theatre on board that shows Disney’s new releases & classics, there is a theatre, all different restaurants with amazing food where, if you’re not a family, you’re seated with other people around your age. There is a spa, a massive gym, a third of the deck that is adults only, bars that have nacho bars & board games. And lots. of. wine.

If you eat at the late dinner seating, the only time you’re really around kids is when you’re getting lunch, and if you think that other people’s children are hilarious (I almost kidnapped a 6 year old who called Stitch a “pirate-alien-monster-terrorist”), a Disney cruise might make you consider sabotaging your birth control.

My estrogen levels are still subsiding from “crazy” to “pinching the cheeks of other people’s babies”. Please forgive me.

The Gush-y Stuff

Being alone with Mister for a week really drove home the value of uninterrupted time. This year is our five year anniversary but being together last week was like having that intense focus you have when you’re first dating all over again.

(PS – Rose petals on the bed don’t hurt that either!)

We saw Cirque Du Soleil, hung out with our family in Florida after the cruise, heard reports of our puppies eating our in laws’ remote controls & wallets(!!), baked in the heat, swam with the fishes, went to the Food & Wine Festival, were soaked to the bone in a torrential downpour and laughed the whole way to the hotel, hung with Disney cast members, and left wishing we lived closer to all the madness and love of our American Family. I’m overwhelmed with the love of the past week, with thanks that our luggage came in before the work week started, and with fondness for my little city now that I’m home.

For now the difference in temperatures seems to have the best of me – I’m on the verge of losing my voice – but last night I finally dug my winter clothes out from their storage while Mister turned the heat on for the first time this year. I’m so glad we did this, that we did it Properly and went a little crazy, and that I’m home. I’m even glad that it’s fall, which is insanity considering our winters, but it’s true.

I love my Mister, but I missed my friends, family, routine, and everything we’ve worked so hard to make happen here. The honeymoon was great, but more than anything, this homebody is thrilled to return to normal life.

Thanks for all your congratulations over the past couple weeks while I’ve been all SQUEEOMG on you, and I’m working hard this week on getting back up to date on everyone’s lives. Talk soon!
