Terrarium Love // Terrarium Craft Giveaway

Ever since I planted my tiny succulent garden I’ve been thinking about other ways to add low maintenance plants to my house, and I’ve been finding more and more daydreamy images of incredible terrariums. The whole idea of setting up a miniature self contained world to take care of and experiment with is so endearing and Victorian that I can’t help but love it. The Victorians used an early terrarium style called Wardian Cases, which sounds so proper and starched that it makes them even more perfect, don’t you think? As much as I like the heavy glass domes that look so stately and traditional, the new style of terrariums that’s light, minimalist and airy is decidedly my favourite.
I was excited to be contacted by Timber Press about their new book Terrarium Craft, that not only shows off some incredibly beautiful examples of creative terrariums, but walks you through the materials and steps needed to create each of their unique designs.
With this book, not only could you have a beautifully photographed world to escape into, but you could then hide the book and intimidate your friends and family with your alarming micro gardening slash interior decorating skills! Doesn’t that seem like a reason in its self to have more people over? ;)

Special thanks to Anja, who writes Clever Nettle which is one of my favourite blogs. She attended the book launch at Artemisia in Portland earlier this month, and I’m grateful that she’s sweet enough to let me share the photographs here so we could peek behind the scenes into this world through her lens.
Whaaaat – how cool are these lil guys?? I love terarriums – especially when they have little dinosaurs or the like stuck in them. :) I’d love to learn how to make one, so my fingers are crossed! :)

Oh those photos! Thank you for sharing. I want to hang small glass bulb terrariums in my daughter’s bathroom window so badly. This totally fuels my fire!
totally neato!
Terrariums are so cute and so simple! Thanks for linking to the contest! I would love to make one!
p.s LOVE the new header you put up! The picture is so bright and vibrant! LOVE!
Ohhhh all those pictures are so wonderful!!
Wow! Those are all so gorgeous! so great.
i seriously want to put these all around my apartment, they’re so cute.
Such pretty pictures. I’ve never built anything like that before. It would be so much fun to try!
I’m really excited to pick up this book. I work at a garden center, and we have so many adorable succulents, mini tropicals, and ferns (also, air plants which are so cool). I just want to bring them all home.
I love making a terrarium every June for my students….I head into the boreal forest and pick up anything that looks interesting, and gently put it into a bag. Pine cones, mossy twigs, decaying cedar bits, a pretty rock or two, some lichen… and place it all in an empty aquarium on a bed of moss. Kept moist with a spray bottle, all sorts of interesting things emerge, and it smells lovely. When our “woods-in-a-bpx” chapter is done, I put it all back in the forest.
These are absolutely lovely! My boyfriend’s mother is all about the succulents right now and I think I may join the bandwagon.
These are too cute! I entered the contest, thanks for sharing :)
This is so cute and exciting! My mom used to take us out hiking when we were kids, and we’d collect all sorts of plants and mushrooms and things, and we’d bring them back and build a terrarium. It was so fun. I would LOVE (like for serious) to win that giveaway. *swoon*
Shoot. I meant “these.”
There are dreamy!
How pretty! “…you could then hide the book and intimidate your friends and family with your alarming micro gardening slash interior decorating skills!” This made me laugh out loud in my office!
KYLA!!! This is so up my alley, it ain’t even funny. I am so excited and can only hope I win. Thank you for linking this to all of us!!! Also? Your new blog design is perfection. ^_^ So “YOU”!!!
Also, another note about the terrarium. I love Lolita fashion and lifestyles and a big thing is taking fun Victorian past times and bring them into modern times. So again, this is PERFECT!
Thanks so much for showing me a new place that’s only 2 miles from my house! I love terrariums, so I’m totally going to go check out Artemesia!
