Summer Love + Goals
In 2010 I posted about my inspiration and goals every month, and it was a fun mini-project that I’ve been starting to miss. I was thinking that it would be fun to start working on it with the seasons, which is perfect for me because I love seasonal foods and fashion a frightening amount- don’t you?
Super cute nail polish – I painted my nails a pale peach and then added off center turquoise triangles to two nails on each hand. It’s geometric & geeky, and I get to look at them all day long. Perfect!
Dreaming outside of middle ages – I have a very active imagination, and for the past two months almost 75% of my dreams have taken place in the middle ages. Initially I was so excited! And then they wouldn’t stop. Let me tell you some things about the middle ages: there is no air conditioning, no vegetarian food, no health care, and not a lot to do. Lately there’s been more and more present day, and now I’m having incredibly detailled shopping dreams on most nights. At this rate I might actually get my Christmas shopping done early this year.
Hot Food + Cold Drinks – This weekend we had a big BBQ for Jesse’s birthday at the house, and it was so much fun! There’s nothing like tasty food in the sun, with cold drinks nearby in a cooler filled with ice. It felt like camping, only with a clawfoot tub and espresso on hand!
Decorating the Studio – I’m getting out of the habit of working from home and getting back into working at the studio, and decorating my inspiration board is on my mind. I’ve been collecting magazine clippings and plotting about pinterest pins to send to the printers, and I think I’m going to start sharing photos of my progress.
Re-organize my blog – I can’t wait until I have a little spare time so I can go through my blog archives and patch things up! I have big plans for a big blogroll update and adding a beautiful index in that will help steer new readers through project posts, recipes and all kinds of hands on items that have been a little hard to find.
Get the puppies in a class – The little dogs have been amazing lately, but I really want to get them into some kind of an obedience class just to make sure I’m doing the right things with them when I correct them, and to make sure I can trust their recall. I would love to wander off leash with them eventually and there’s only one way to see that day soon: plan + act.
Try my hand at fashion blogging – I’m not going to do a full six months + six dresses challenge, but the summer is such a fun time to share more pictures! I’ve barely shown any photos of my new sleeve at all so far, and this will not stand :)
Work out a weekly routine that works – I love (love) discovering new things that work for me, especially when it comes to managing my time. I’m trying to slowly weed out the things that slow me down and pack my week full of mini-motivators that will keep me revved up and productive.
I need to dance more. I need to get back to myself more. I need to exercise and eat better/healthier. I need to perform more. Hope you get all of your goals done!
Maybe I should get my pups in a class, too… I’ve been thinking about it, and a friend of mine knows someone who teaches a free beginners class! Some of my main goals are to take photos everyday & spend more time with my colleagues outside of work :) Have a great summer!
That’s weird! I had a super-detailed dream of me pants shopping in a mall the other day. I probably tried on eight different pairs. And I remember every single detail.
Your summer goals are absolutely FANTASTIC, and I cannot wait to see how they all turn out. I am especially excited about you getting your pups into a class because I know there will be some wonderful stories about that! (And one of my friends down here has a baby Schipperke, and every time she talks about her Lucy, it makes me think of you.)
Happy summer, Kyla!
Your goals sound great. So far the only one is getting through a move and my daughter’s second birthday at the same time. Oh and to get our new house dog ready and adopt our dog when she’s finally ready for her home in July. I think a goal list should be made.
Can’t wait to see your sleeve. I am a big fan of tattoos and would love to get a big one. I have six small ones right now. The only problem is convincing the husband haha.
I can’t imagine your blog more organised! :)
Yay for summer goals! I have a bunch of them too. Something about the start of a new season makes you want to revamp some things! I’ve recently been so into nail polishes too! I love looking down and feeling cute and pretty!
I like the idea to write small/ or not so small summer goals. We have made our summer list on Friday (on paper) so it was funny to see the same idea but in other part of the world. (I am from Lithuania)
Yay, super sweet goals! I’m from Australia so it’s more ‘before the flowers bloom’ goals… My top priority right now is creating an awesome routine as I start my new job, and getting prepared for uni, starting in July :]
Also, you should share a little picture of your nails, they sound really lovely and I’m really wanting to do more interesting nail art lately, I’d love to see a little photo every time you paint them!
Elizabeth :]
ps… I have recently become a huge fan of your blog, it’s my new favourite!
Hi Kyla!
Since you’re into cute nail polish designs, have you tried these yet? (http://www.sallyhansen.com/products/nails/nail-color/salon-effects-real-nail-polish-strips)
They’re so much fun! My favorite is the houndstooth design.
I second the request for a photo of your nail design!
:)
Kristin
I LOVE that photo! So pretty.
I would love to see an example of this geometric nail polish you speak of – it sounds adorable!
I love your summer goals a lot. Very inspirational! For summer, I want to ENJOY where I live. I think I’ve spent so many summers with my head buried in the books that I haven’t really lived out my summers the way I want to. But I’ve really tried to make big plans for my weekends to actually enjoy my city. I mean, I live in a place where people vacation! I should take advantage of all this. :)
Wow! Yours goals sound really awesome! I also need to get into a routine and start working to revamp my blog before the fall! A few of my summer goals can be found here:

Your nail polish sounds SO pretty. I was sad there wasn’t a picture to go along with it!
G and I are also looking into puppy obedience classes for Walter! He is so very smart but often does whatever he wants instead of listening to us lol.
Aaaand I’m super excited about your venture into fashion blogging. They’re some of my favourite posts to do and I’m excited to see your take on style!
<3
First off, I love that you have such vivid dreams – esp ones set in the middle ages! Too cool. I dream about things like unbalanced check books and finance equations. :P
My goal for the summer is to move and handle the chaos that goes with moving. And hopefully have my place set up like i want it by the time I see your lovely face in August! :)
My first goal for the summer is to get on a regular, normal-person schedule because my sleeping and eating habits are just ridiculous. Not only do I waste a lot of time, but it’s contributing to my health problems and I need to be in tip-top shape by September, when one of my best friends is getting married. Second is to make a habit of writing in my journal and working through the issues that keep looping in my head. Third is to read more, and fourth is to gussy up my blog by getting a new layout and a big-girl web address.
I love this! It’s definitely making me think about the things I’d like to accomplish.
How do you keep yourself on track?
Also: needs a picture of your nail art!
Over the weekend, I got manicures and pedicures with a girlfriend. We were talking about how much fun it’d be to paint our nails aqua or purple. Love your geometric shapes idea. Summer is the time for fun colors, for sure!
This summer, I will lose weight. Period.
I have so many goals for summer of course, they involve lots of sewing, crafting, and home renovation. I love your list and hilarious dreams. Minds are such a crazy thing. They sure do take us on some trips.
So many big goals! I’m looking at my relaunch date of August 1st for the blog & shop & it’s been a little intimidating. It’s somewhat new territory for me & I’m hoping I pull it together in time!
I also really want to be able to walk with Lola off-leash. I’ve been considering obedience class as well. She’s super smart & responds to our training at home very well, so I think a class might be a good way to really learn the best ways to reinforce those things.
xoxo
I don’t think I’ve ever had a dream set outside of the present. Now I wish I had!
My goals for the summer pretty much revolve around getting ready for a fall full of (hopefully) going back to school. I also need to learn how to get around without my own vehicle now, which is kind of exciting. I see a cute bicycle bag and plenty of adventures in my future! :)
Looks like you’ve got a plan. I’m about to make mine! Woo hoo. Nothing like summer to get your creativity flowing!

i love your blog!
i have a few goals- first of which is to motivate myself to get my small business off the ground, and to pamper myself more often :D
My first goal is to get this baby out – happy and healthy. Happy and healthy and OUT. Did I mention that I’m ready for him to be out?
I love the fun nail polish thought. I painted flowers on to mine the other day, just for fun and it made me happy every time I looked at them. Please share some of your time management hints and tricks, I would love to read about them.
My goals for the summer include getting my life (both physical space and other aspects of my life) more organized. I think once things are more organized I’ll feel more in control and in a better space about finding a job.
I need to set some goals! I’ve been lame and haven’t set any. I love the way you painted your nails! So cute!
My summer goals include revamping my blog with more personal and DIY-related stuff, inspired mostly by your gorgeous blog!
Lady, can you get anymore inspirational? I swear, I visit your blog with every post you make and am flooded with this warm, inspired feeling. ^_^ I love your list of summer loves, especially the nail polish idea! AND YOUR DREAMS!!! I’ve been having lots of nightmares lately (I lost my rose quartz which is said to help keep nightmares at bay and if you do have them, helps you realize during the nightmare they ARE NOT REAL.) I’d love to dream of the middle ages and/or shopping! :P
I do have a lot of goals for Summer. And goals in general. Heck, I love goals and lists and goal lists are just awesome! :D
That is so funny about the dreams. It sounds like you’re hyper-aware of your dreams — do you keep a dream journal or anything? I rarely remember mine 5 minutes after I wake up. :(
Yay for summer & summer goals!
My goal is to get married and… wait, no. My goal is just to get married. That’s like 87 billion goals all rolled into one. That’s all I can handle right now.
Lol – that is hilarious about your dreams!
These are some great goals! My major goal for the summer is to relax more. Spend some time just being – reading outside or gardening! Oh, and I also want to successfully keep my garden alive and thriving all summer. So far, so good!
I still more or less do the monthly goals thing, I find it super helpful to achieve big things each month (or at least try!) Your goals sound like fun, good luck! :)
Love reading about your summer goals! Nice blend of personal, professional and improved-living stuff you’ve got going on here my friend!
I think my goals are pretty simple. Read more. Live more. And continue my path to getting in shape.
My goals are to get back into personal blogging and to record my music. I wanted to add “bigger” goals but have found if the goals are small and achievable it’s easier to believe the big ones will happen.
I’m envious of your dreams! I love reading about the middle ages and would love to go back in time to them. Looking forward to your fashion blogging!
I think we should see this geometric nail polish! And the fact that you dream in time periods is all kinds of awesome!
Other than continuing my back to basics challenge (a new recipe each week), I’m not sure what my summer goals will be – but I’ll definitely be thinking of them now! Yours sound fun and attainable! (And love those flowers – ha!)
Your goals sound amazing! :)
I just want to re-read the Harry Potter series and enjoy as much hot weather and cold slushies as I possibly can! :)
Can your blog be more organized than this? I already love it!
I love colorful nail polishes, but I have to stop biting my nails first. Ugh, maybe after the last exams? ^^
My huuuge summer goals is finishing University exams, then I will move on to all the other goals =) Have a nice week Kyla!
Juliette
Yayyy for summer goals! I laughed when I read about your dreams in the middle ages, those are exactly the type of dreams I myself would have. You should try to dream some excitement in there (like air conditioning or a handsome prince). :)
Good luck on your goals, wishing you all the best!
