Six Months + Six Dresses: Number Six
Since the spring I’ve been trying to stretch- with my creativity, with my confidence, and with every inch of me that I can muster. When I turned twenty five something clicked in me, and I knew in my bones that I wanted to make this year one of giant growth. I wanted to keep waking up day after day, feeling like I’m closer to the girl I want to be. A big part of that for me is attitude and confidence. I’ve been working on it over the past year, but it hasn’t come as easily as I wanted it to.
Six Months + Six Dresses has been a monthly-ish dress feature since the spring, and initially it was a huge stretch for me. I felt awkward and out of place in front of my camera, and had trouble coming up with outfits. I procrastinated the shoots and wished I could skip posting most of them, but I kept going and hoped that I would stretch my comfort zone, get more confident and could have a picture I’d be really proud of.
And finally, I do!
(Mal is also interested in fashion blogging, apparently!)
High Waisted Skirt: $7
T-Shirt: $15
…which means it’s not technically a dress, but I’m not a technical person ;)
This was such a fun little fashion blogging project and I’m so glad I pushed through it! Thanks so much to the girls who played along with me for all or some of the months, and for everyone who left encouraging words. I’m definitely not fashion blogger material, but moonlighting has been a lot of fun.
Now do one for my level of girlie like… Six Months of Brushing Your Hair. :)
This was terribly cute to watch and made me wish I was more confidant and would post photos of myself!! But I sort of followed in theory — I *did* buy two summer dresses for this and then neeeeever put them on! LOL. Can we count that attempt anyway?
Aww is that the skirt you bought when I was there? It’s so darling!
Yes it’s that one! :)
Only your guidance could have me looking this good, lets be honest! ;)
So cute I can’t stand it! You could have told us it was a dress & we would have believed you. ;)
I’m so glad you decided to push through and finish the six months. I’ve loved this little series from you. It was fun seeing your outfits each month. I loved all of them!
Hey, wait a minute! Hold up. Whoa. Back the train up, LADY!
Unless my eyes deceive me (and I’m sure they don’t), you are also wearing some form of knitted garment in this photo.
How DARE YOU not state your source?
Ha! Sorry D! =D
That’s the test run of a new neckwarmer that I’ve been working on for my etsy shop- it’s just made with some really basic wool, but I love how big and cozy it is :)
I thought it was a dress! You look awesome and that sure looks like a comfy outfit.
LOVE that dress. I would totally wear it just like you did, but not nearly as cute :)
I love this look! Adorable.
Did you knit the scarf you are wearing? I made the same one. The exact same colour and it even curls like that. I can’t understand why it curls like that, so I pitched it.
You pitched it? Oh no! I love the curl, it’s like wearing a giant necklace :)
If you’re just doing a knit stitch your work will be curly on long pieces like this, I think that if you knit then purl it can straighten it out- but it’s definitely the stitches that do it :)
I think this is my favourite of the six, though dress #2 comes in a close second :) Glad you stuck it out and stretched yourself – you look lovely and confident!
I didnt find you again until recently, so I missed the first five, but this one? This is adorable
Lovely – it’s so adorable on you. A very cute choice of outfit! (I especially love your cowl)
That outfit is the cutest! High-waisted skirts are my favorite new style.
They’re so addictive! I love this skirt because it makes any of my shirts into a “new” dress :)
I’m so glad you’ve continued to do this! It’s funny how confidence comes and goes. I recently noticed mine slipping a bit- I started becoming self conscious about silly things like the way my ankles look or how my nose is shaped- things that I never gave a second though to before! Luckily, I have a fantastic husband who reminds me every day that I’m beautiful and smart and perfect just the way I am. I’ve also made a conscious effort to believe him :)
That conscious effort is a big part of feeling good! The philosophy that I try to stick with is that however old I am, that’s as young as I’m ever going to be! I’m going to look back at pictures of me now when I’m 50 and think “Man, I was gorgeous!” no matter what I feel like now. It’s better to do whatever I can to enjoy myself now instead of fixating on little things when I can help it :)
Kyla, you look fabulous, as always. I wish I had the confidence to wear something like that!
So cute Kyla! Did you darken your hair a bit? It looks really pretty!
I did- by accident actually! lol I’m glad you like it, I do too now especially since being in Florida lightened it up a whole bunch! :)
6 months + 6 dresses was definitely my favorite series of the summer. I loved seeing everyone all dolled up and lovely. This is hands down one of my favorites. Aren’t stripes so great? :)
SO adorable!! Wish I were creative enough to put an outfit like that together! Bravo, girl.
You should be very proud of yourself. How could you not be when you look that lovely?
Oh Kyla, I think you look adorable and wish you would continue! You always looked so great in your outfit posts! :]
You’re such a sweetheart! I think I look so incredibly awkward in the first few- but who cares, right? I’m just glad that I started having fun with them- I think more than anything that’s what translates in the last two ones :)
I might do a “what I wore” post once a month just for fun though- I love your outfit posts so much! They’re an inspiration to me- if I could have all of mine look like that you couldn’t make me stop posting them ;)
I am so glad that you had fun with them Kyla!
Also, I think a “what I wore” post every once in awhile is a wonderful idea! And thank you so much for the sweet complements, they really mean a lot to me. I’m always a little weary when I put up my outfit photos, but I am so glad to hear that others can find inspiration in them.
I think you’re such a wonderful lady, and I only wish you the best Kyla<3
I feel like every comment I leave for you says the same thing, but YOU ARE THE CUTEST. Omg.
Fantastic photo! I really enjoyed following along with your six dresses and you inspired me to wear more dresses this summer (even though I didn’t post them).
I’m glad you liked them! It’s been a fun excuse to wear more dresses- and I’m sad the winter is going to take them away from me soon! But there’s always next year. And leg warmers? ;)
you look GREAT! and look at all that sass you have in that picture!! AWESOME! it takes a really long time to be confident and you are WELL on your well. i have struggled with it for 27 years but it gets better everyday! keep up the amazing work sweetie!!
cheers to confidence!!!
xo,
cb
First comes the confidence, then comes the sass! :)
Thank you so much for the encouragement!
I loved this feature :D I tried to participate but the only dress I actually bought in the past 6 months was right before Topher was born – and I looked like a whale in it. Yay for pregnant tummies …
That picture just emits confidence and hotness. I absolutely love your style – it absolutely reflects you as a person (at least how I think of you!)
Aw thank you! I love being able to express myself through my clothes now, especially at work. It makes the days a little more fun! And I love that you feel like this hits close to who I am- coming from you that means a lot, miss :)
High-waisted skirts are my absolute favourite! You look adorable.
I love that photo of you! You look so mature and confident and SASSY! I wish I could pull off an outfit like that but I think I would end up feeling so awkward. ;) I’m sad to see this series go. :( I really loved it!
Oh my goodness, I felt so awkward taking these up until the 5th month! lol I think it’s totally natural- and like anything else, you have to practice to feel comfortable. I was thinking about continuing on with these through the winter but I’m not sure I’ll be very fashionable- it would be all sweaters and skinny jeans ;)
you’re so pretty. :) and i very much like the “dress”.
This is adorable, Kyla Roma. :)
Girlfriend, you look amazing in this picture. Absolutely love it. This has been such a fun project :) I also tend to forget that you are a few years younger than me because you are just so put together and fabulous. love it.
This is my favourite picture I’ve seen of you. It SCREAMS confidence! You look HOT too, by the way :)
Love the outfit and this challenge!
Love this ensemble! Very chic. :)
I love this, even if it’s not technically a dress. :) I’m so glad you got the boost of confidence you wanted while doing this project!
oh your hair is to die for. goodness. and good for you for pushing yourself to o something out of your comfort zone!!!
Hi, I have been reading your blog for a long while now, but I’m always shy when it comes to commenting. I love your blog from top to toe, and you look simply amazing with this beautiful “dress”.
Juliette
Thank you so much for saying hi, and for your kind words Juliette! I can’t wait to check out your blog :)
You look so pretty! Zooey also loves jumping in my fashion photos. There’s something about a camera that is magnetic to dogs, I guess.
Ooh this is a gorgeous gorgeous outfit! You look lovely :)
Lovely, Kyla. This feature was so much fun!
Love this and love the determination to change your attitude! Feel like I’m on a similar journey :)
I love the hair, I wish I could pull it off! I also like the scarf, very stylish!
