Six Months + Six Dresses: Number Five
For the past six months I’ve been working on a little challenge I made up called Six Months + Six Dresses. Because I’m an unreformed jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, this summer I’ve been making a big effort to try and have more dresses in my closet and to try and get more comfortable with having more “fashion blogger” style pictures taken.
It’s weird, I’m fine with face pictures, but fully body pictures? Suddenly all I can think about is how I have no where to put my hands! And then I make awkward faces and it’s all over. I’m an enthusiastically bad model, and end up posing as a T-Rex most of the time someone goes to take my picture.
What? They’re fierce, isn’t that what you’re supposed to go for?
Dress number five is one of my favourites- a Dickie’s number I picked up at Target last year, the tiny stripes and ruffles just shouted state fair material to me and I felt perfectly at home among the Clydesdale’s and roasting corn.
This month I’ll be finishing the project with one final post! I’m not sure where that leaves my fashion blogging career, but I think that over the winter I’ll keep them up in a less formal way- maybe I’ll start showing my favourite cozy accessories.
I hope you’re enjoying the last days of summer!
Judging by the @ replies on twitter I’m the only one actually experiencing Fall weather right now, I’ll try to send some your way :)

Oh, you’re definitely not the only one experiencing fall weather right now. We have it here as well. (And this is coming from someone who isn’t a big fan of fall or winter.)
Love that dress!
Beautiful picture! Please take more.
I love love love this series, and you inspired me to start shopping for some of my own! I’ve already added three dresses to my mostly dress-less closet. I can’t wait to see what your next fashion adventure will be!
I love the dress! I, sadly, forgot to buy a dress in August. :( Boo! I may have to buy two this month. ;)
I have a problem with posing for the camera as well. I always feel so awkward.
Haha, I think most of us are enthusiastically bad models. I always resort to poking out my tongue, or jump, or flashing the peace sign. Having something cheesy to do makes me feel a little more comfortable, so those shots always end up looking better than the naturally posed ones. Funny how that happens, I think :)
I’m the least photogenic person I know. It’s one of the reasons that I rarely post pictures of myself on my blog. I feel pretty comfortable in my skin most of the time, but when someone breaks out a camera I just become all kinds of awkward. I need to follow your lead and force myself to be more comfortable.
Lord knows I need to try wearing more dresses. This one is simply adorable. You look like a doll. xx
Love the pic! And love that I was there when the pic was taken and got to see this dress in person. I loved it! It is so darn cute on you! Definitely gets my stamp of approval, 100%.
It’s fall here, too, and I am LOVING it. :)
you look absolutely adorable, kyla! <3
oh that dress is so cute and very summery and i love the location, mmmmmcottoncandy!
i never know where to put my arms either, but yeah, hands on the hips! all attitude! :) cute dress, kyla.
Just put your hands on your hips and work it girl ;) Cute dress! Can’t wait to see the last one!
I tried that dress on at Target awhile back – love it! And I just bought a great new GAP dress that’s perfectly suited for autumn, which we’re experiencing a bit of, too.
Cute dress, Kyla! I’m loving the color/tones of the picture.
And yess, please do send some my way. I’m desperately waiting in Arizona for it to cool down.
Haha the T-Rex line was the BEST line I’ve ever seen on a blog. EVER. Love this dress on you! I’m sad the dress challenge is over this month – I’m determined to go out with a bang and find one last awesome dress! Thanks for hosting it!
I was totally LOVING this dress when I saw all your MN photos! I think it is so cute and that photo is super fun!
what a great challenge! love it as i am a huge dress girl but also LOVE my jeans! wish i had a job where i could live in them. it is always like to try something new! props lady!

Love, love, love the dress! You are not alone in experiencing the fall weather. It’s rainy and, well, fall-like here in the Northwest.
What a great idea. I wear a lot of dresses at work, but on the weekends I tend to play it safer with my jeans and tees. I too have been picking up more dresses to wear out and about … but the pictures probably won’t ever happen. Kudos to you for stepping in front of the lens.
Oh I’m loving the dress. I really need to get my September dress up!!
And I’m definitely feeling some of the cooler, fall weather here in Ontario!
This dress is supercute – definitely something I would wear. I have to make an effort to wear more dresses myself… I do have a few in my closet, but so many times I opt for shorts, instead of dresses.
You are ADORBS and have the most perfect body shape! We actually have the same body type, so you are an inspiration. Maybe I will post a pic of you on my treadmill. Ok, now I’m being creepy.
Too cute! I love the way it’s ruffley but not tooo girly.
I wear too many dresses and I’m trying to get into wearing jeans and shirts. I should have done six months six shirts!
I love that picture and that dress! Wish I had one that looked like it =) I think even if you posed like t-rex you’d still look adorable, duh!
What a great series this is! I’m a reformed jeans and t-shirt girl–don’t get me wrong, I still do love a great pair of jeans, but even more, I LOVE a dress! I actually think they’re so much more effortless and comfortable. The ruffles on your dress are just so cute :)
You’re definitely not the only one experiencing it..but I’m loving this new wave of cool weather. I hope it sticks around for awhile! And I always feel the same in photos…but you definitely are able to pull it off. So adorable! <3
I am loving this little series, Kyla. Super cute dress!
Ahhh! The State Fair. Loved that dress and it was quite state fair appropriate. I laughed out loud when you described your “fierce” pose, I bet Tyra Bans would love that.
