Ration Collection
I love little pieces of history, and this year I’ve started keeping my eye out for WWII rations to add to my collection. I found these meat rations in the spring and have them on my inspiration board at the studio. I love how vividly blue they are, even though they’re these tiny chips of 70 year old cardboard.
The thing that I like most about them is that when they fall off my inspiration board they can be hard to find, and I have to get LA to help me find them. Something about being a vegetarian in 2011, and asking your friend to help you track down your lost meat rations just makes me smile :)
what a fun and unique thing to collect.
wow Kyla, i can’t believe the actual mind set folks must have been in while holding onto those practically for dear life. quite something! i love your photograph of them and the lost then found story you & LA get up to when they go missing. happy weekend!
ahaha, oh the irony!! fun times :)
My husband was in the Army and sent me some Army cheese and Vegemite from his short jaunt in Australia…I still have them :) I think stuff like that is super cool.
Oh wow! What a fantastic find!!!
I bet they would look cute strung on string across a bulletin board. :D
I think those are part of an emerging color trend, too… ;)
What pretty little pieces of history you have there! (And I agree, asking for help to find your meat rations would make me laugh too!)
Those are so amazingly cool! Where did you find these? Are they kind of a run-of-the-mill antique store find, or a little more difficult than that?
I found them in a downtown thrift shop, but I haven’t seen them before or since. Now that I know what they look like I’m keeping my eye out :)
