Puppy Love & The Victims of my Vegetarianism
Sometimes you just don’t realize how your life choices effect the ones you love…
httpvh://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aWoyoVnNQE
ps – I’m the only vegetarian in our house, my husband and dogs have normal diets, but my dogs have learned to beg based on my eating habits which results in them drooling over things that dogs really shouldn’t be so excited about… :)
How sweet! They really do dance! My little one will eat anything except leafys (spinach, lettuce, leaves from plants). He will eat a vegetable of fruit before a piece of meat which proves he’s my baby since I’m a vegetarian. My big one is super picky about eating. She only eats veggies if they’re cooked but she’ll eat the flower off of any plant.
Btw, you have the cutest voice and accent I’ve ever heard!
So cute!! My pup loves when I’m at the cutting board. Carrots… Tomatoes… Melon. I’m growing carrots and he’ll grab them freshly harvested with the leaves and all!
I have two husky mutts – one will eat anything and loves lettuce, carrots, broccoli and any other veggie he can get his paws on, and the other one will absolutely turn up her nose anything green and leafy. We don’t eat a lot of meat in this house at all, so I do wonder if they’d beg differently if I was cooking up chicken or steak every few nights.
so adorable, i just love this.
it’s funny because we have an orange tree in the backyard, and the dogs think the oranges are their toys. of course after a few throws of their “ball”, the orange starts to break and they end up trying to lick the juices. so maybe doggies have a thing for citrus and you just proved it once again.
So funny, my pup, Zooey, does a similar trick. We call it her “ballerina” dance and she jumps up like your dogs, but we get her to spin around at the same time. She’s very talented :) Your boys are too cute!
my dogs used to love carrots because they us feeding them to the horses and felt like they needed to get in on it too! :)
haha, this was so cute! I’ve never seen a dog eat citrus fruit before, that’s so funny!! I love your puppy voice you put on for them, it made me smile :D
The best part is that I don’t even realize that I’m doing a puppy voice until I watch it back- definitely a sign that soon I’ll have portraits of them on the walls and bronze casts of their “snow boots” ;)
Hehe! My mum’s dog was funny. At home, if you tried to feed her a raw carrot, she’d ignore you (like most self-respecting dogs). But when my mum took her out to feed the horse, the dog would get so jealous of all the attention the horse was getting that she’d beg for the horse’s carrots and gobble them up like it was steak.
I love dogs, they’re so silly.
What made you choose your breed of puppy?
That’s too funny! Another weird animal + food story? Growing up we had an arabian gelding who was a total character, and he loved drinking rootbeer out of the can. You would just hold it up and tip the can, and he’d drink right from it! :)
We decided on getting our dogs because while I’ve grown up with animals I was worried about getting a rescue as our first dog. My family has always had rescues, but they’ve also had big issues to work through and since Jesse didn’t grow up with animals like I did I thought getting puppies would be simpler. Looking back, we could have definitely managed it but I’m really glad we found our little guys.
We chose schipperkes by accident- we saw a photo of them being advertised by a local breeder- they looked like bear cubs and I wanted to know more about them. We found out that they’re extremely smart and have the attitude and look of the big dogs that I’m used to (german shepherds) but are small enough for our tiny house. They’re also extremely high energy and will be destructive if you don’t give them +45 mins of exercise every day and have firm boundaries, so I really don’t recommend them unless someone is very committed to being active in all weather or making big lifestyle changes. That being said, we’ve taken their needs as a challenge, and they’re the sweetest little beings I could hope to have around. I kind of adore love them :)
Aww, your pups are the cutest! Such great dancers, haha.
Right when you said “I question that” the look on your pups faces was so priceless I started cracking up. It looked like they were saying “GIVE US MORE!!!”
I have a peach and nectarine tree and my puppy loves them. Especially the peaches. If I have a peach in hand he’ll follow me all excited back into his pen.
Aw, that’s too cute! I love their “dance” trick. :)
My dog loves veggies, fruits, pasta, meat … anything pretty much.
I have a cat who will eat scraps of broccoli that fall on the floor, so I totally get this.
Ohh my gosh, how sweet! My dogs have a love for green apples (thanks to my father-in-law), which is fine with me. Much better than feeding them cookies and what not.
Also, one of my dogs has accidentally eaten chocolate..twice. First time he got into my purse and ate a chocolate bar I had in there. Second time we cam home and found an entire bag of hershey kisses GONE. Foil and all. We called the emergency clinic and he was fine. He also has a thing for jalapenos… needless to say, he stays in the crate when we’re not home now.
Oh my gosh, Jenny! Your dog is adventurous and has an iron stomach!! lol It sounds like the crate is a good investment against future vet bills ;)
This video made me relieved for two reasons: 1) I’m not the only one with a “pet voice” and 2) I’m not the only one whose animal enjoys weird things—Harry is a broccoli man :)
Aw, so cute! I love their dances!
I love it! your little men are so cute. I love that they dance for oranges.
Sandy eats some really weird and random things too. Like green beans — cooked or uncooked it doesn’t matter. She loves them and if you have watermelon, look out she will try to sit on your lap until you give her some.
HAHAHA. I love it!
My moms dog will eat ANY food you throw at him. Seriously. ANY food. But he really loves banana’s :)
I see that a lot of puppies are being fed grapes (or raisins)… PLEASE don’t!
Some dogs can eat them their whole lives, but in most dogs it causes renal/kidney damage & failure.
Just like every dog has a different toxin exposure limit (think chocolate, garlic, onions & raw potatoes) ONE single grape can cause almost instant renal failure depending on the dog. :(
Its horrible, I know, but I saw it first hand working at a vet… keep those 4-leggers safe, happy & eating other veggies!!

I’m definitely aware of common allergins, and if you listened to the audio I was feeding them oranges :)
Sorry, should have clarifyed. quite a few mentions of grapes being a favorite from your commenters, and I’m impressed your pooches eat citrus :)
Oh my goodness, that’s so precious! And a little vitamin C never hurt anyone, right? ;)
hahah this is so cute and funny.
xo moorea
Ha, my dogs are the same. Bananas, Broccoli, Tofu, Beans, Rice, Apples, Avocado, and on and on and on. :)
Dogs are omnivores, so no matter what you eat, they’ll be begging for it. :P
Omnivores and opportunists!! :)
My dog goes nuts for carrots, apples and strawberries. It’s insane on how crazy he gets when he sees them. When we bring groceries in the house, he has his head in the bags searching for them.
Is that orange? My Mum’s dog loves carrot and apples and gets so excited about them now that he’s on a diet :)
We are not vegetarians in our house, but our dog begs and eats anything, including salad greens and orange peels! She gets plenty of food, but she was the runt of the litter so I think it’s just in her nature.
Bahaha! Cute. :)
Haha, cute! My cat’s eating habits are not normal, either. He eats literally anything. Even mangos and strawberries, cherry cake and salad…
hahah! I’ve never seen a dog do that before! Your dogs are so cute! Dancing around for oranges!
I swear dogs have an extra cute face they only put on when they want food. No one in my home is a vegetarian but my dog goes nuts over fruit, bananas, blueberries, apples… the best is probably trying to watch them eat pomegranate seeds!
Chloe has always loved peas and carrots, but now that Topher is part of our family – and he’s such a messy little eater – she just waits under the high chair for bits of food to drop. Now she loves bananas, grapes, strawberries, raspberries – really, anything he decides to give her. It’s a good thing she has a good metabolism, otherwise she’d be HUGE!
That’s too funny! Under the high chair would be a perfect spot to camp out ;)
And while you probably know this, the animal lover in me has to say be careful about the grapes- those are toxic to dogs. It sounds like Chloe might have a strong stomach I’d keep an eye out to make sure she doesn’t grab those :)
Hysterical! My pup does the same thing when I drop grapes and lettuce leaves :) Poor guy doesn’t know anything about his ancestors.
That is hilarious!! Too funny. They might have a lack of pepperoni in their lives = hilarious!!
My brother’s dad LOVES strawberries. If he smells them, watch out.
Your puppies will also dance for WATERMELLON!
Hahaha! I don’t know what’s better, the fact that they’re so excited about oranges, their “beautiful dance,” or that they have a “lack of pepperoni in their lives.” This totally made my morning!
Yes, I’m all about encouraging the dogs expressing themselves through dance ;)
In our family, noone is a vegetarian. However, sometimes I suspect one of our dogs to be, because she loves water melon, cucumbers, peppers and basically any vegetables or fruits and sometimes she even seems to prefer it, haha.
Hahaha too cute! My beastie loves meat, but we gave up red meat some time ago so she just gets chicken and sometimes tuna :)
This is so sweet! My poor little (sausage) dog has some serious food allergies, so the last time she tasted meat was as a puppy! She loves herself some salad though – and always attacks a lettuce leaf with vigour! :)
It might just be some crazy dogs…like mine. She loves mandarin oranges and bell peppers. So weird!
