November Inspiration & Type A-ery
Stress free holiday cheer – I know it’s not everyone’s favourite thing, but this time of year from Halloween to New Years Eve is one of my favourites. I love how soon everyone will come home for the holidays and it’s going to start looking like Christmas outside- but there’s still time to get everything done! For me November is a month of anticipation for Christmas, before any of the stress of December kicks in. I’ll take that, with a box of Christmas cards.
My Life In France – I’ve just started reading My Life In France by Julia Child on my kindle, and I’m completely enamored. It’s the story of Julia Child first moving to France, learning the language and learning to cook, and it’s filled with deliciously written details about her life, kitchen, marriage, and letters. It’s my favourite parts of Julie and Julia, all the time.
Changing over to my winter wardrobe – I don’t have a giant wardrobe but I have even less in the way of closet space, so I can’t keep all my clothes out all year. As a fun result, I’m always building up my wardrobe for winter and summer separately. I store my “off season” clothes in a big rubbermaid container and swap out twice a year- it means that I always know what I’m not wearing and can donate it, and when the seasons change I get to rediscover all my favourite clothes I haven’t seen in six months! Give me skinny jeans and perfectly over sized sweaters, mukluks and scarves. I can’t wait to see my favourite winter clothes again!
Dream bigger than I’ve ever dreamed before – I have some news that I can’t wait to share with you, but things are definitely going to be changing in my life very soon and I can’t wait for you all to come on a very exciting journey with me! One hint: I love babies but it doesn’t involve babies :)
Share my anxiety story – I mentioned in passing last month that I’ve been dealing with more anxiety than I usually have, well apparently that’s not even the half of it! This month has been a roller coaster, but also really rewarding and revealing. I haven’t been ready to share until now, but I’m excited to tell my story next week.
Be covered in sparkles – This is just a practical reality, but holy retail at Christmas! There has not been a day that I’ve come home this week without leaving a trail of sparkles wherever I walk! It’s been a week of unpacking Christmas ornaments and I’m quite sure that if I get any sparklier I’m going to gain the ability to grant wishes.
Do you have a wish for November?
When I’m covered in enough sparkles to grant wishes,
I’ll make the ones in the comments below come true first. I pinkie swear.

My November wish is to have a Thanksgiving meal at my table surrounded by friends, good food and great wine and lots of laughter.
What an exciting post!! I can’t wait for all the reveals :) Are you moving? Or…. travelling? My first guess was babies but then you veto’d that one! A wonderful post, you are always so inspiring :)
I absolutely love your inspiration list, and I am excited to hear your big news whenever you announce it!
My November wish is to find a better work/life balance. I feel like it has suffered recently, and I want to spend more time with those I love and less time worrying about things that don’t matter. A lofty goal, but one that will be good… I hope!
Being able to share your anxiety story is a scary thing but also exciting because it means there’s less confusion and more answers, and more of a real picture of where the future is going. Which sounds awfully exciting with this mysterious news of yours (I was totally expecting babies LOL)
Ah darn, I was definitely going to guess babies until you said it wasn’t! Can’t wait to hear the news either way :)
And my wish for November is snow. I’m tired of this cold weather with no snow!
oh, i loved my life in france.
my november wish is to continue MY journey, get back on the path to happiness and somehow make this christmas a good one.
excited about your big news. ♥
My November wish is to get a job– one that is just… right.
& If I’m granted this wish, I’ll thank you– in all your sparkly fairygodmother-likeness.
♥
This November I want to stop eating canned foods and start cooking again. I want to successfully buy all of my Christmas presents, and work on having a more cozy TV room.
i read this post and it immediately made me happier. can’t wait to hear all of your exciting news :)
& yay for sparkles!
I swap out clothes as well! Spring/summer and fall/winter totes fill our little storage unit off of our patio. Can’t WAIT to hear the news!
My November wish is for my family to have a drama free month–nothing has affected me directly, but it hurts to see them going through things I can’t do anything about.
Other than that, I’m ready to welcome the holidays with wide open arms!
Get all my Christmas cards written up so I can do a mass-mailing December 1st.
my wish: to fall in love. it’s happening.
my life in france is definitely on my to-read list, i agree it was definitely the best part of julie and julia. as for my own november aspirations, to actually make christmas cards err or order them and make them pretty and print off some wedding pictures.
My November wish is to embrace that busy is my new normal, to not harbor on the ridiculously stupid little things that don’t go my way, and really enjoy this time in my life. Not that I don’t, but I feel like being in school and being busy can take away from the grandeur of the blessings of life, you know?
:)
My November wish is to pass my November exams!
My November wish is to go the whole month without getting sick (or hungover).
And to get back into running 3x week.
this is definitely my favourite time of year. so cheery and joyful and fun!
and julia child… i so love that woman. such an inspiring life. <3
My biggest wish for November is to find an affordable flight to go home for Christmas :( Flights to Europe are so ridiculously expensive right now :(
I am looking forward to your sharing of your anxiety story and the great news that you have to share!
I tend to only rotate in and out my winter clothes, since my tank tops and t-shirts can be layered with sweaters and cardigans, etc. Which of course means my closet is usually a bit packed with clothes in the winter. I am trying to not give away my clothes as much though because I tend to regret it later when I’m like “Man, I wish I could wear that again!” It’s a tough balance.
My only wish for November is for people to learn more about diabetes during National Diabetes Month and on World Diabetes Day on November 14. Please visit my blog to learn more and make me smile! :)
I don’t know, I just really love all the post you write. I like your tastes and ideas and every post makes me smile. I am happy that you have something that will change your life positively..I am also curious. ^^
Have a nice day!
Juliette
Kyla, you are a breathe of fresh air. I have never commented before but I started reading your blog a couple months ago and loved it so much that I went back and read older posts. You’re such a great gal!
I’m definitely going to have to start reading that book. I loved the movie ‘Julie and Julia’ and really wanted to know more about Julia Child, now I can!
I guess my only wish would to have some of your writing style rub off on me. :) You are great at getting your personality to show through.
All the best to you!
Hi Kyla! Here I am, no longer silent. :) I’m looking forward to hearing your update. I too love the anticipation that November brings, there’s nothing like it! My wish is that I will be able to let myself dream big dreams, and know that they will come true.
I am pulling out my big bag of winter clothes today!! I can’t wait to go through it – I don’t even remember what is in there!
Really looking forward to hearing about this new turn your life is taking :-)
Oh my gosh I loved “My Life in France”. Made me fall in love w/ Julia Child – and Paris – even more! I found it inspiring that seh didn’t learn to cook until seh was in her 30s! And I think it was her mid or late 30s, actually!
Love the tease – and lol that you had to put the ‘it’s not about babies’ disclaimer in there! Can’t wait to hear about your big news!
Let’s see, for November, my wish is for a fun Thanksgiving weekend w/ family. There are 5 kids, 4 are married, and 4 nephews. It’s a lot of people and a lot of different personalities – some of which are very strong. I love my family to pieces but hope that everyone behaves. Esp if I bring the Barrister home!
Can’t wait to hear your news!!!! So excited for you :)
My wish for November: try and convince someone to buy me the leaf necklace from your shop haha ;) I really need to get started and finish hats I’m knitting as Christmas presents.
Oh darling, I’ve been in the place where my anxiety has literally paralyzed me from meaving my house and I remember last year at this time it was worse than ever, I’m sending you some love my dear. AS FOR SPARKLES, YES. YES. AND YES. I’m hoping my Nov. involves sparkles, growth, extra-sweaty exercise, endorphins and resilience.
You are such a tease ;)
My November wish is to be able to dig deep for the patience I need to deal with my husband’s severe S.A.D. and his angst over hating his job.
I am also very excited for the holiday cheer, but have been dealing with a lot of stress and just hope that things begin to calm down (although I don’t foresee that happening! oh my!).
My wish for November would be able to enjoy the cold weather, and enjoy a few hot coffee dates with friends. It’s really the simple things in life that make me the happiest<3
My November wish: Make my holiday season stress free (HAHAHA)
I was all: BABY! BABY! BABY! …until you said it doesn’t involve babies. Aww, man! ;) I can’t wait to hear your news, though!
I’m not sure if I even have any goals for November. My last assignments for my classes are due December 1 so I know I’ll be busy, busy, busy completing them!
You are just about the cutest thing. I wish for a stress-free Christmas shopping experience. I think I’ll get it, since no boyfriend or in-laws = my shopping list has been drastically reduced. Hooray!
I keep all of my off-season clothing in a rubbermaid under my bed. Switching the clothes over every year is so much fun!
My November wish is to not get sick again! My goodness, what that does to hinder productivity.
My November wish is to complete at least half of the handmade Christmas presents I have on my list and to eat pumpkin pie.
Sidenote: I gave my mom My Life in France for her birthday and she loves it…I have to wait until she is done then we book swap.
November wish: Find a job! Also: Be covered in sparkles myself.
