Motivation by Osmosis
One of the blessings of being a visual person is that it’s incredibly easy to get inspired. I soak something up everything that’s around me, from architecture to pop culture, but that can also makes it really hard to stay focused sometimes! I’ve set up my desk to have a small vintage collection in one corner that I change whenever I go thrifting. This way I’m always inspired and energized when I sit down, which makes taking care of my to do list a hundred times easier. Or, a hundred times easier after my nails have been done with a new colour on Monday- I love my nail polish ritual :)
After the nail polish ritual is done I’m excited to focus on a new really awesome weapon in my arsenal of motivation!
One of the most positive moves for me lately is that Leigh-Ann and I recently rearranged our office space to make it easier to get down to work. I now have amazing double wide cork boards over my desk that I’m excited to clutter up with my newest inspiration and as many lists as I can muster.
My newest addiction in my fight to keep moving forward is definitely my desktop. Lately I’ve been in love with making my desktop background a way to help me remember my big priorities for the week with simple customizations.
At the start of the week I’ll make a list of my priorities and then pick a background that goes with it- it’s simple and fast, and no matter what I’m working on I have a visual touchstone to keep me on track.
I thought this would be fun to share, so I made you a background that you can customize if you’d like to try this out:
2520 x 1775 | 2048 x 1536 | 1600 x 1200 | iPhone
Just download the size that works for you and add your priorities for this week into it in a typewriter style font and you’re set for the week! You don’t even need any special tools, you can use free online editing software like Pixlr or Picnic.

Oh my gosh! I love your workspace. :D It’s soooo cute! I am just loving your nail polish collection and am thinking I just might need to head over to American Apparel for some pastel shades. Love this! <3
Love love love your blog!
I love seeing office spaces! I just drool! I think because our home office is a huge lack of inspiration, I always scope out office pix.
I just had a great time doing my study in the new house and creating a workspace that’s totally fresh and different from my old one… so I think I am going to snitch your desk lamp. It would match my stuff perfectly.
Hi, I came across your website when I was looking for a vegan white cake recipe . It was the rainbow ? layer cake . The texture and the crumb looked perfect, can you share the recipe .
Thank you for the desktop background! I’m going to try this for sure. Plus, your double cork’s ‘F’ ‘N’ cute! Because you have the F and N up there ;)
Love what you’re doing with your work space and your desktop background!
I love the idea of a task list on the desktop. And I think I’m stealing the nail polish ritual! I’m always so sporadic with painting them and that would give me a fresh start to every week.
Oooh what a nice office space! Also, I LOVE AA nail polish. I really love the colours you have there!
I really love your workspace!!
i love the viewfinder! i wonder if you can ebay or etsy new photo disks for it, to always have a new vista at the ready :-)
Lists on my desktop would create an awful lot of room on the kitchen table. Thanks for the great idea :D
I just love your work environment. So much creativity! :) I’ve been thinking about buying a corkboard and I think you just convinced me to do it! And I love the desktop background. Just added it to my laptop and can’t wait to add a fun to-do list to it.
Oh wow, I totally love your work space!! So creative!! <3
Gah I’m so jealous about your studio space. It looks so dreamy to just get comfy and work on your projects!!! And the natural light… so nice!
Love the wallpaper, Kyla! Thanks for the download. :)
I am so insanely envious of your workspace. I want a big desk. Bright light. Visual stimulation. It’s all so dreamy. I can’t even remember the last time I did my nails. I’m lucky if I keep them short and neat, so they don’t look ridiculous without color or sheen!
I have the same problem. Being so visual means I can get distracted by anything. And I just finished my first quarter of art school and there are endless things to be distracted by there. And it’s spring. Bees are really distracting to me.
I LOVE your work space! How awesome is that. And having your to-do list on your desktop is a fabulous idea! :)
I love this idea. You’re so incredibly awesome & inspiring. :)
<3 you!
Awww! You separated your desks, now you can’t talk face to face with Leigh-Ann anymore, but I guess thats the plan. It was so cute that you could just look up and see each other. Have to come for a visit soon to see you both and check out the new floor plan. Have a good day Kyla and Leigh-Ann. :)
Love Momma
Thanks Sharon! The nice thing is that we’re side by side now, and we still have our super comfy couches for our dedicated chats. Plus it’s easier to have spontaneous dance parties and watch tv while we reply to email now ;) Can’t wait to see you again!
I love your desk set-up! It’s giving me ideas for my new office space.
What a cute idea!! Thanks for sharing, Kyla!
1. I LOVE those nail polish colors. They are so fun.
2. What a great idea to put your to-do list on your desk-top! I love the way your mind works!!
I added a cork board to my office to display my running bibs and medals (the latter of which I still have to earn one day when I am back from my injury). Cork boards are definitely the best – so versatile and timeless.
I love the idea of adding a list to your desktop! Also? I need to pretty up my work cubicle. It’s very grey and not at all inspirational.
Love this idea, Kyla! I will definitely be using this for my April background. :)
I am a very visual person as well, so visual stimuli is ALWAYS needed to keep me focused/entertained. I can’t stand a blank wall. Love the background, that’s an awesome idea!
Wow this was lovely and inspirational, thank you so much for sharing, you’ve really got me motivated!! xo
