Minor Miracles + Postcards
This Saturday morning I went down to get my coffee and was stopped dead in my tracks when I looked at my deck! Every now and then when it gets cold enough in the winter time you get to see a really cool thing happen: sublimation!
Do you remember your water cycle from high school science? Sublimation is when something goes from being a solid straight to being a gas- so in other words, the sun was at the perfect angle and I could actually see snow evaporating in the sunbeams!
I grabbed my camera and caught it for you, you can see a little bit of my breath too- but look for it happening by the brown building! Here’s a taste of what happens when it’s -32 °C / -26 °F in the prairies…
And the thing about writing me a postcard? I’m serious! I would love to actually get a note or a card from you, and I’ll write back to everyone who drops one in the mail!
Make sure you include your blog address if you have one so I can get to know you better :)
ps – I grabbed my old camera instead of my Flip, and the mic on it’s a bit broken so it gives me a lisp! Listen for my S’s lol :)
Oh my goodness just watching that video gives me goose bumps!
I do not miss the Prairie winters that is for sure! I was home for Christmas (in Winnipeg) and forgot how cold it is there compared to Montreal winters.
I hope you are keeping warm and what a great blog and etsy shop you have :)
Much Love,
Crystal
An friend of mine made this video also in Winnipeg, maybe the week before yours: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RztQ1hNYBus
My folks are in California for a month. I plan to show them both your & his videos so they know what they missed.
Coolness! Great you were able to capture it on video too :)
I’ve always loved snow, though I don’t get to play around in the snow often (our weather isn’t exactly snow-y lol). Something about it just brings out the inner child in me.
Thanks for the vid, as for the postcards, who doesn’t love those! Hope you get lots!
Cool beans! :) And, oh – that snow! You guys are just covered in it, hey?? We’re lucky here in Vancouver – it says it’s going to snow and then people freak out about the 2 cm we get…lol. :)
This is funny because I was just recently thinking about asking people for addresses and making postcards to send! So I will totally send you one! Yay!
The science geek in me loves loves loves this video! Thanks for sharing!
I am totally sending you a postcard from Paris. :)
Neat-o! I have never seen that before (and we get quiet the cold winter days here too!) Maybe it has never been sunny enough to do that…
Hope you are staying warm! I heard it is quiet chilly in Winnipeg!
How neat! I’ve never seen that and probably wouldn’t have known what it was.
Science + snow + postcard friend = this post is awesome.
I’ll go out and buy a stamp tomorrow.
– former lurker :)
SCIENCE! That’s so cool and so beautiful.
I will definitely be sending you a postcard. I LOVE receiving postcards in the mail!
that’s so cool!! thanks for sharing. and be on the lookout for something in the mail! :) great idea.
So cool, Kyla! Never expected a science lesson from you! =)
I love that it could be captured so well in the video! I wasn’t expecting it to show up as well as it did! It has been reeeeally cold here for the past couple of weeks (-20 to -30 F with the wind chill) so I definitely feel your winter pain!!
That’s so freaking cool! I am all for playing the postcard game. :)
Love it!!! I couldn’t help but giggle. I saw the same thing yesterday and was in “Ah”. Granted you managed to get a super cool video of it!! :) Thanks for sharing!
That’s amazing, Kyla! But…BRR! It was in the 40s here over the weekend and I was complaining about how cold that was…it would probably feel like summer to you! ;)
Who doesn’t love postcards?
So cool that you were able to see that taking place too. I can’t wait until I can come visit your part of the world :)
I’ll MAKE you a postcard! :)
Love the lisp! haha. Thanks for sharing! We haven’t gotten much snow yet and I was missing it. Sending you a postcard as soon as I go out and get stamps :)
:) i’ll look for a postcard.
I love to see this kind of videos, because, you know, here in Brazil there’s no snow! =)
Love it! I have seen that happen a few times in Fort St. John before! It’s kind of cool but also kind of horrifying that it’s cold enough to get like that!
How amazing! Winter miracle for sure :]
Aww! That is so cool. Thanks for catching it on tape! <3
Ooh! Sciencey.
OH wow! nature can be really incredible :)
It’s beautiful! But terrifying… the closer we get to returning the Winnipeg after graduation, the more the reality of these kinds of things scares me!
Oh my goodness, cold! Reminds me of Minnesota!
I’ll stop complaining and shivering now :)
this is fantastic! and hellz yes, i love snail mail! be on the look out for a postcard :)
How amazing – thanks for sharing that!!!
That is absolutely WILD, Kyla! I’ve never seen that happen… and am kind of glad that it doesn’t get that cold here for me to experience it first-hand. However, I’m happy you filmed it!
pretty cool indeed :)
and that you managed to capture it.
have a great day!
