March Mini-Interviews

….April Fools! Last week I got behind schedule and wasn’t able to post my March sponsor interviews- and we can’t skip them because these ladies are amazing and you need them on your radar. They are stellar in the kitchen, are road tripping through the US and making fabulously creative projects (and products)- have fun exploring them & their blogs!

What are you looking forward to?
I am most looking forward to the middle of July right now. My husband and I are planning on taking our first real road trip together to see the Rockies. Neither of us has ever made out there and it’s been a big goal of Ryan’s for the last several years to see those snowy caps. We’re going to attempt to take our new pup Nellie with us if she’s a good girl.

Where do you go to be inspired?
When I’m feeling really drained and in need of inspiration you will often find me on my front porch or walking around my neighborhood. In today’s fast paced word of virtual technology I find turning inward, and clearing my mind of all the internet garbage I’ve been collecting, helps me focus my ideas and truly find the inspiration I’ve been yearning for. It’s usually already there just hidden.

What are you looking forward to?
I am looking forward to opening up my own restaurant someday and traveling the world. Until then, I am looking forward to my next greatest feast!

Where do you go to be inspired?
I go to a place with great food and a great view [living in San Diego this isn’t too hard], or I catch up on all of my favorite blogs! There’s nothing more inspirational than people following their passion.

What are you looking forward to?
I am looking forward to becoming an aunt (for the first time) this year. My brother and sister-in-law are expecting their first child this summer and I am so excited for them and to be an aunt to their wee one. My brother and I are very close so I was so excited when I found out, but it was also early so I had to keep it a secret, which was extremely difficult to do, but now I am safe to shout it from the roof top…or into the wide world web!

Where do you go to be inspired?
I draw inspiration from several sources. I like to read, watch documentaries of artists and musicians (my favorites right now are Beautiful Losers and Ken Burn’s, Jazz), listen to music, and peruse Pinterest to become inspired. One of my favorite modern artists is the late, Margaret Kilgallen. I am beyond inspired by her use of strong female individuals and celebration of Mexican and American folk art….so inspired that I began work on a tattoo that is influenced by her work.

What are you looking forward to?
In the very beginnings of building a small business, you’re trying to lay the foundation, build a basic structure which also allows for future growth, and create an exciting, inspiring, and high quality product line. It can be pretty overwhelming, so it’s easy to loose sight of anything long term. It’s also easy to get overwhelmed and discouraged when things aren’t picking up as immediately as you’d hope. We’ve been in business for a few years now, and we’re not given to gimmicks or selling our souls to get business — our present mantra is patience. We’re looking forward to growing slowly and steadily so we can keep up with orders and really excited to see our business grow, and more importantly, meet new friends, build a strong community, and watch as our relationships with artists and colleagues bloom!

Where do you go to be inspired?
Design inspiration: clothing magazines, Pinterest, design blogs, and vintage fashion (usually between 1920-1950s).
Color palette inspiration: we often look to nature to find the purest shades for each season as well as look to what other cultures in different ages and places around the world have produced in terms of color & patterns. We’re careful to observe what colors would work best for what season we’re producing them for. Every three months, we re-evaluate and update our palette.

What are you looking forward to?
I’ve just set off on a road trip with my husband across the US before we fly to Australia where we’re intending to settle. Everything’s pretty exciting at the moment, and I’m looking forward to it all!

Where do you go to be inspired?
Typically, I go to books, where I find my imagination can roam more freely than if it’s given a visual stimulus. I love how prose can take you out of yourself, to a new city, world, or time. You learn to empathise with people you’ve never met, and who may not even exist! I find I can visualise colours, shapes and faces, without them even being described.
