Lately…
Lately I’ve been…
+ Giving up all caffeine except for tea, then recanting when Starbucks sent me a free drink coupon for my upcoming birthday. If that’s not a sign, what is?
+ Enjoying all my “new” clothes since I switched my fall/winter clothes for spring/summer. I love how switching out makes me feel like I’m a Very Fashionable Lady With Lots of Clothes, when really My House Has Small Closets.
+ Aggressively stalking vintage on Etsy from my iPad at night, which so far hasn’t progressed past window shopping, thank goodness.
+ Perfecting the art of mojito making.
+ Excited to have my new custom ring! It’s a replica of a cheap ring I bought years ago. (You can see the old one in this post.) I’ve never found one I like better, but the original rubs my finger so badly that I can’t wear it regularly. Since I haven’t found one I like more in almost a decade, I thought I’d have it made as a real piece of jewellery I can wear all the time. I’m in love with it! (Also, don’t mug me. I’m feisty.)
+ Catching up with my sister at family dinner’s and making duck faces at each other in celebration.
+ Geeking out about being invited to some really amazing design events in the US, and trying to see which I can make happen.
+ Making time for playing with the dogs in the backyard before work instead of racing out the door every morning.
+ Starting work with new design clients and launching finished designs. I’m working on scheduling my days more and seeing how that looks- so far it’s fun and gets more done!
+ Listening to old radio dramas after finding classic noir & horror shows I can stream through stitcher radio. The first story I listened to was about a surgeon who took his ex-lover to beg a dying hobo for his eyes so her husband would be able to see again, which wasn’t even half as weird as the story ended up, and was pretty much the highlight of my week.
What have you been up to lately? :)
Two things –
#1) Do you actually switch out wardrobes, like take out one box and put another box away? Might be something I should consider.
#2) Please report back on perfecting the art of mojito making.
Have a great week :)
Hey Chrystina,
Yes I actually pack them up and store them! I have two large rubbermaid containers that I fill with summer clothes in the winter & winter clothes in the summer. The seasons are really pronounced in Manitoba, so there’s no way I can wear any of those clothes outside of those seasons. It’s been a fun project and switching them out is a big highlight every six months :)
I’m just going to comment on your little owl… I posted about my owl bookends a little while ago, I thought I was so special finding such amazing owl ceramics. And then this week I discovered an entire range on etsy, ebay etc! And now this! You have a matching owl as well.
Well I never…
xo
Love, love the new ring!! And I completely understand the switching of season fashions. Makes you feel like a new and improved version!
Fresh starts!!
Holy moly, that ring is amazing!
Also…while we’re on the subject of amazing, your hair!! I love the cut and style.
Those are such cute sandals! Can I ask where you got them? Or what brand?
Work, family priorities… same old, same old.
I’m also trying to give up coffee as it makes me bloat… having a very hard time.
I love your owl :(
Such a pretty ring, Kyla! Also you and your sister are adorable together! :D
Oh that free drink card is definitely a sign! Coffee it up! Yumm!
You are too cute. Love the photo of you and your sister! (I assume she’s the blond with you in the photo?)
Lately I am working my butt off on CFA studying – and feeling equal parts ready and totally scared about it.
Lately I am loving the sunshine and warm weather.
Lately I am dreaming about summer and all the fun things I know it will hold!
Whoa! I’m totally going to listen to those radio dramas. I think radio is becoming/has become a lost art, but I LOVE it!
I also admire you for getting a custom piece made. I’ve always wanted to do something like that, because, to me, it’s the mark of true sophistication…like something Coco Chanel would do. I dunno, maybe it’s just me. haha :)
@Abby: I have GAD, and I gave up caffeine for a long time after I was diagnosed, and it definitely helped me. But I was also working at a coffee shop at the time and consuming ridiculous quantities of caffeine. So I think the big change in caffeine intake made a really noticeable difference. Lately, I’ve started re-introducing it, and it doesn’t seem to bother me (unless I go bananas and accidentally drink an entire carafe…oops!) :)
But definitely don’t go cold turkey! I did, and I got crazy headaches. Just my two cents :)
Did you try to give up caffeine due to your anxiety? I’ve seen a few people talking about that lately and I’m wondering if I shouldn’t give it a shot and see if it helps me.
If you’re drinking a lot of caffeine & have anxiety I would definitely recommend trying scaling back and seeing if it makes a difference- it can make a natural tendency toward anxiety into experiencing it all day long. But I think that Kim’s right- the difference between having a little in the morning and none isn’t worth the headaches in my books :)
I switched from coffee to tea because I really like sipping on something all day long… and that means that sometimes I have *way* too much. Actually, it means that often I have way too much. With tea I can drink as much as I like without any consequences. Starbucks is me being a rebel ;)
I was like ‘what, how are you surviving without coffee?’ — but then you said you were back to drinking it. Phew :)
Catching up with family is always fun. That pictures of you and your sister is so funny (also curious to see that you have a blond sister… my (twin) sister is blond, too!).
Where did you have a custom ring made? I have so many cheap rings that I looooove but that also rub off on my fingers so I can’t wear them. I’ve always thought about having them dipped in gold or something… dunno if they can even do that!
Oh, Elle! An even faster & cheaper fix? Paint the band of your ring in clear nail polish and it will keep it from turning your finger colours.
I wasn’t totally clear in my post- my old ring had a high edge on it that was rubbing my finger to the point that I had a scar there & it cut me if I wore it in the winter with dry hands! It was a love/hate relationship. I took it to a local jewellery company that sells and makes jewellery, and they gave me a quote for having it done in different qualities of gold. It’s not cheap, but you can give them old pieces of gold or silver jewellery to use as materials to make it less expensive. It’s a great way to make something special you’ll always have :)
The old radio dramas sound fun.
They’re really great, and you can stream them on your computer if you make an account with Stitcher- could be good for a slow afternoon :)
