Lately…
Lately I’ve been… getting excited for a little end of summer road trip with my besties, and a trip to Mexico right after New Years 2012 for a friend’s wedding. For the next two years I won’t be traveling much, but these two trips are going to be big highlights for me and they make me want to dance. Just a little. Okay, maybe a lot!
Lately I’ve been… hearing a lot about how Winnipeg is getting its NHL team back. The team might not have a name yet, but thanks to a friend who had season tickets to the previous team, we’re already season ticket holders! Jesse is through the roof and I’m looking forward to see some real hockey games with him, without the 8+ hour drive to Minneapolis.
Lately I’ve been… fascinated by the idea of parallel cultures- as brought to us by reality TV! This week I was hooked on watching the Sister Wives move into a typical Las Vegas neighbourhood, and discovered My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. Both shows are baffling and fascinating to me at the same time, and I can’t get enough.
Lately I’ve been… working on some fun non-website design projects, and on guest posts too- I just designed a piece for my client Whitney Lee that she imagined as part of her site’s design and made it into a project for her DIY column. It’s an adorable prop sign project that was just featured on Offbeat Bride last week!
Isn’t she the cutest? I want her dress and the sign- and now I can’t get the idea of making a shop sign like this that could be displayed in the Freckled Nest studio window!
Lately I’ve been… working on some really fun and unique blog design projects- I have so many client sites that will be launching in June, I can’t wait to unveil them! I’ve been having so many new ideas, stretching my concepts further and branching out into juicier colours- I think you’re going to be surprised and I kind of can’t wait to share them with you.
Lately I’ve been… trying to carve out more time for myself, for reflection, and for planning and working ahead so there’s a little more fun and a little less rushing about in my day to day life. I want to make sure there’s room to get things done, be spontaneous, and know that my espresso addiction is a luxury instead of a requirement for when I open my inbox. Right now it feels like a lot, but I bet it’s not too much to hope for ;)
Oh! You lucky ducks! To become season ticket holders in Vancouver requires big bucks just to get on the LIST to WAIT for season tickets. We have no hope of ever being season ticket holders is what I’m saying. I can’t wait for my Canucks to play your Jets (please, oh please, make it the Jets!) We will have to work on forming a rivalry :)
I have such an odd fascination with that gypsy wedding show!
Hm. I’m in Mexico for a wedding after the new year too. Outstanding :)
I heard Winnipeg is taking our Atlanta Thrashers! I have to say I’m a little disappointed as I have not been to a single hockey game yet. But hopefully they’ll get more appreciation and fans among the Canadians :)
I’m so excited that Winnipeg will have an NHL team again! :D Yay hockey!
And those trips sound killer exciting!
I love that you’re taking roadtrips and then going for a destination wedding. That sounds fantastic. I always enjoy seeing the sites you design. I saw on the news the other day that the hockey team was moving to Winnipeg, I thought you all would be excited.
Lately, I’m really focused on finding a job. I’ve been really intense but also really enjoying summer. My teenage cousins are off school for the summer so we’ve been hanging out a lot, relaxing and enjoying the days.
Lately, I’ve been trying not to feel too discouraged by the lack of response in my job search. It’ll happen, I keep telling myself. Have faith.
Lately, I’ve discovered other passions in my life that have nothing to do with the passions I’ve been cultivating for the past year or so. Hm…
Lately, I have been working on getting better, making time for myself, and making time for loved ones.
I watched the first episode of that Gypsy wedding show the other day. THOSE DRESSES ARE SO HEAVY! Did you see the part where they were talking about flirting as teenagers, and the boys twist the girls arms and say “give me a kiss” until they relent? Um…yeah. What the heck? It was really interesting!
My boyfriend would be super jealous of your season tickets by the way.
I love hearing about people who are excited to have the “Jets” back, and who will be attending the games! Super exciting!
That’s so exciting that you guys are already season ticket holders! I was happy to hear that Winnipeg was getting an NHL team back. It will be cool to have another Canadian team. I’d LOVE to be a season ticket holder to my NHL team here (the Vancouver Canucks) but you pretty much have to sell several major organs and/or your first born child to even get on the waiting list. :(
Wow! Sounds like things are going just lovely for you! I love the sign and I especially love these little life-updates you treat us all to! It’s fun to see what’s going on. I cannot wait to see some of your blog re-design work. Juicy colors? Sounds ah-mazing! Here are some things I’ve been up to:
Lately I’ve been reeling from my two-day new freshman orientation experience. I’m so excited/nervous for college, rushing, and all my honors art classes this upcoming fall! I’ll be quite a ways from home in a whole new environment where I know absolutely no one. It’s going to be quite the adventure!
Lately I’ve been wondering what I should do with my hair. I have an appointment soon and my head is spinning with ideas and questions like: Should I go oombre? Should I cut in short? Should I get hot-pink strip re-dyed in like last summer? Oh, and I’m lusting after some feathers! Haha!
Lately I’ve been looking forward to vacation with my best friend. We’re parting ways in the fall for college, so soaking up a week of non-stop one-on-one beach time with her is so incredibly special to me (despite the 100+ degree heat).
<3
Ombre hair and feathers are the new big things, aren’t they? I vote you go for the ombre and post lots of photos! :) A vacation with your best friend sounds like an amazing way to ground yourselves before you guys part ways for college- where are you two going?
Like I told you before, I am totally hooked on Sister Wives… what a strange fascination.
Lately, I’ve been focused on my vacation which will be coming up in 6 weeks…. can’t wait!
AHHHH! How exciting you guys got season tickets! I heard on the radio the other day that they needed them all to sell out by June 17 or something and then they sold out in like 10 minutes? Craziness! But I LOVE the support Winnipeg is giving to their team. NHL hockey games are SO SO SO fun!
Lately, I’ve been trying to carve out a little time each night to read a book or sit and write (pen to paper) and just relax a little after some really hectic/busy days over the past few months.
Lately I’ve been cozying into my new roles: bonus mom. A lady who actually wants to take care of the house, keep it neat, tidy, cook meals. It’s a little Donna Reed and occasionally a little bit scary.
Lately I’ve not been sleeping enough but that’s ok as I’ve been doing things I need and want to do: reading, excercising, exploring, writing.
Lately I’m not worried about the future and what it holds. It seems positively lovely and certain. It’s kind of amazing.
Also, can’t wait until end of August.
And a trip to Mexico? How fun!
Trading sleep for experiences is totally worthwhile when you have soo much going on! I’ve been doing the same thing, and then giving myself naps too. I can’t wait to hear about your working life and how it’s changed now that you’re moved! We need to catch up, stat :)
I completely relate with the struggle to carve out enough time to “get ahead”. Phew. The way that we ladies of the web seem to juggle everything… it’s no wonder we all seem to struggle with that!

So glad to hear you got tickets! J got them too and he’s been doing a happy dance ever since. Doesn’t it inject the coolest energy into the city?
Have a lovely week!

Things sound like they’re going swimmingly! I hope your trips are as fun as they sound and I can’t wait to see the new designs! Happy Wednesday!

I love your life updates! Lately I’ve been trying to keep up with work, baby preparations, reading, church, and family, while managing all these pregnancy symptoms! Really looking forward to having my body back and meeting my little girl. :)
Oh my gosh, I can’t wait to meet your little girl either- that’s so exciting!! I hope that the pregnancy symptoms give you a few days of peace soon and that you can rest in having such a full, lovely life with so much to look forward to this year :)
Lately I’ve been spending free time entranced by TLC shows as well! Sister Wives and My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding are just fascinating! Also, those dresses are insane!
I was blown away by how proud the brides are of being cut by the weight and design of the dresses! It’s a bit bizarre to hear about the men and women’s roles in their society too. Very strange- but I love that they call themselves “travellers” and the accents are beautiful :)
Lately I have been almost pinching myself and thinking – is the test really over? It has consumed my life for so long, it is surreal to come home and not see a stack of books on my table (they were the first thing I packed on Sunday morning!!)
Lately I have been loving how sunny it is outside. Summer seems to have arrived and while I did not love the 100+ degree temps yesterday, I am NOT going to complain because I whined about the cold FOR SO LONG. So bring on summer! :)
Lately I have been thinking about our girls weekend and all the fun things we are going to do. CAN NOT WAIT. Chatterbox, here we come! :)
I can’t wait for Chatterbox and to see you in person! I’m going to brush up on my board game chops before the road trip :)
I’ve never been to a professional hockey game – it’s actually something that’s on my 30 before 30 list! How exciting that you all have seasons tickets! I’ll live vicariously through you for the time being!
Love that sign. Love.
Lately I’ve been meeting with a friend of mine and we’ve been having our own small group or Bible study and it’s been ah-mazing.
It’s so cool that you guys are doing a bible study together- it sounds like that will make your friendship so much deeper than it already was! :)
Is that your friend who just got… is the word confirmed? Catholicism terminology is not my strong point, but I try! <3
