Last of the Season
With the days getting shorter and colder in the prairies some of my favourite summer things are starting to come to an end. It’s finally too cold at night to read on the porch without a blanket, scarves are mandatory in the mornings and skirts are more comfortable with tights to buffer against the chill in the air. It’s that beautiful time of year when during the day you can almost forget that it’s fall (if you pretend the leaves haven’t fallen!) and at night you can bundle up with a blanket and cup of hot tea and be perfectly cozy.
This weekend was one of the last weeks that our farmers market is open, and I needed to go see it one last time before it’s gone until next July. So Jesse and I bundled up before the sun had woken up, grabbed our coffee and pretended we couldn’t see our breath…
We bought amazing peirogies that I could barely wait to get home, and saw leeks that would have given the ones in my garden a complex! The rest of the weekend was spent blog designing and knitting while watching netflix! I even finally watched An Education!
All in all it was a beautiful farewell to summer, and a lovely (if early morning) welcome to the fall.
Oh! I loved An Education – it was so easy to get lost in the fabulous clothing and sets.
Your photos are always so whimsical! Makes me wish I could just hop on over to Canada for a visit. :-)
What a fun weekend. That giant pumpkin is so cool! And yum – pierogies sound delish!
The seasons are changing around here, too. We might get a rain/snow mix. I am trying not to complain too much because it has been an absolutely beautiful fall.
I still need to watch An Education. I think it’s in my netflix queue… better check!
Your farmers market looks like so much fun! I’ve been on the hunt for hot apple cider for weeks now and have only found some at my local Coffee Bean. Hope you got some there :]
God I miss you.
The flowers look gorgeous! And what is that on the picnic table? It’s huge!
It’s the mother of all pumpkins! Isn’t it terrifying?? lol
You really do have lovely weekends. You make it a point to appreciate things. It’s inspiring.
love wildflowers. and i LOVE an education! one of my favourites. the costumes. the music. the cast. i have a serious girlcrush on carey mulligan. ;)
Oh, farmer’s markets have my heart – so sad when the season is over! And isn’t ‘An Education’ lovely?? I loved it Just gorgeous from beginning to end, and the actress – forget her name – is so great. Sounds lovely! :)
A crisp in the air sounds sublime–take it all in for me with plenty of lovely days!
Oh, what a lovely day. This weekend, I made my triumphant return to my old Sunday ritual of checking out my local farmer’s market. I rushed in and out of there before the rain swept in, but I was lucky enough to score some of the last white peaches and heirloom tomatoes of the season.
I can’t wait until we get to say goodbye to summer for real instead of getting cold for a few days then warm again.
You said goodbye to summer and I said hello to winter. Hardly seems fair.
Yum, pirogies! Unfortunately, our farmers’ market closed weeks ago, but there’s a good open-year-’round organic market nearby that I’ve taken to loving.
We went to our Farmer’s Market for the last time this weekend too. I’m sad the Farmer’s Market is ending, it was a wonderful weekend tradition for us!
I am looking forward to hibernating quite a bit this winter though!
when i see your pictures, it makes me miss winnipeg just a tiny bit.. thanks for sharing :)
Oooo! How was An Education? I’ve been wanting to see it!
This weekend definitely marked the beginning of fall here in California, too, with cooler temperatures and lots of water from the skies!!
I am ready for fall! Bring out the scarves, boots and jackets!
I don’t think we HAD a fall in Edmonton … the snow’s already here! I’m going to be loving my fireplace for the next few months :D
Our last farmer’s market is this Saturday…sigh…thank goodness for winter squash and knowing that they’ll be back next spring! (that, and apple butter. Oh apple butter. You temptress, you.)
Also–you had “An Education” this weekend too? I got my copy from Netflix on Friday but haven’t been able to watch it yet (I wasn’t quite up for slightly melancholy after the flour beetle incident). Hopefully I can watch it tonight…at least, that’s the plan.
Sounds like the perfect weekend. I hope fall sticks around Chicago for longer this year. It usually is way too short!
That donut looks amazing! Glad you got in one last Farmers’ Market visit of the season :)
What the…is that a potato?
lol! That is definitely a giant pumpkin :)
I love the ways you and J spend your weekends; so unique, fun and full of life! Glad you had a good weekend =)
Since coming to the south it is really hard to find Farmer’s Markets. But we do have some Flea Markets. The weird thing is that they don’t start going until September. I think it is to get ready for the Christmas holiday shopping spree.
Sounds like you had fun though. I do miss those cold mornings with a good cup of coffee…
These are my favorite kinds of days.
That sounds like a lovely weekend! Nice pictures =-)
What a cute send-off! In Georgia it is starting to feel like fall everywhere but the deepest parts of the south. You would think it was just a nice, cool summer day… And I hate it. I live near Atlanta but go to school further south and sometimes I wish I was back at home just so I could be around fall weather for once.
Ha! Both you and Amber took a “last trip” to the farmer’s market this weekend!
Hey, nice flowers!
