June Inspiration & Type A-ery
Current Inspiration
Summer sights & smells & sounds – From changing my perfume up to something citrus, to the sound of an iced latte in it’s glass to seeing all the pretty hipster girls downtown, I’m so happy that summer is finally here!! For me the summer means reading on my deck, having pints of local beer on patios, peeking into all the cool downtown shops & biking everywhere. I love living in the middle of the city.
Exile On Main Street – Rolling Stones albums just sound better when hot out, in my experience.
Pretty Pastels – I keep trying to surround myself with light, airy colours and fabrics. Anything that looks sun faded and or like it could be a sidewalk chalk – and after pulling my summer clothes out of storage it’s
This June I Will…
Get my next tattoo – This goes down at noon TODAY! I love my back piece & I can’t wait to have a shoulder piece too. I’m beyond excited to see the art and get the outline work done.
Learn to make sangria – Because from what I can tell about the world, this ranks up there with life skills.
Marry myself to being active – Between joining a yoga studio and starting to run regularly I want to get myself in serious shape this summer! I just need my clothes from last summer to fit a little less snugly, you know?
Remember to slow down – because trying to do everything at once doesn’t actually get much done, and it’s stressful as heck.
I’ve been going to yoga too, as getting in shape should be a higher priority for me!
Also, yes. Learning to make sangria sounds like an excellent summer goal. I think I may move it to the top of my list!
I found a lovely recipe for sangria here http://kaseybuick.com/2010/05/peach-sangia/ … I’d love to learn to make it as well!
I’m looking forward to tattoo pictures.

Looking forward to the tattoo post! Just got mine about a month ago.. loved the whole experience! Have two vids of it on the blog today – one if mine, one is my husbands. Tattoos have such a bad wrap to some, but really, it’s a wonderful and exhilarating experience! Good luck!

Hoping that I can get through the Joy Equation program I signed myself up for. :) Love the koi tattoo! Can’t wait to see what you’re getting.

I make some killer sangria! I love bike rides, picnics, bbqs and spending weekends in the colorado mountains- I’M LOVING THIS SUMMER ALREADY. And yes, ROLLING STONES are totally on my playlists right now!

Sangria is definitely one of my summer traditions. Making it is so great, and it lasts in the fridge for a while if you can’t finish it all in one day. I can’t wait for all of the delicious summer fruit to be available for good prices at my lovely little grocery stores, and can’t wait to have picnics in at Trout Lake/swoon.

i saw you tweet a picture of your tattoo earlier and aahhhhhh!!!! i’m excited for you, it’s so pretty :)
june is the best. it’s my birthday month! :)
.-= kelly ann´s last blog ..catherine & cj engaged: part two =-.
June is my birthday month and my tradition is to bake a strawberry cake for my birthday. Usually my mom was in charge of that but since she is far far away in Germany, I need to figure it all out by myself.
And every two years, June is for soccer: this year the World Cup and two years later the European Cup.
I think I will also finally give in and try a Sangria recipe. I hear so much about it. It must be great!!!

oh goodness, sangria is so so delicious and not that hard to make at all. i recommend a peach inspired one, they are amazing!

Kyle and I only have one summer tradition and that’s throwing a barbecue for all of our close friends at the beginning and end of summer, usually when it’s hot and the pool is perfect!

I love the phrase “marry myself to being active”. That’s just how I feel! I started running a few weeks ago and it’s amazing how much activity has become a part of me. It’s become natural for me to carve out that time. I look forward to it. Even on days when I think I won’t have the time or energy, I find it anyway.
It’s like being married because it isn’t just about “Do I choose this?” every day. It’s just: “Yes. I choose.”

Those last two *should* define my June, but I don’t feel motivated so I have a feeling they won’t!

Oh a new tattoo!!!
And I love your inspiration. The Summer is full of artistic beauty, whether in iced tea, flowy dresses, sunglasses and beachy hair.

Yay for summer, and yay for your new tattoo! Can’t wait to see it!
Summer is the time of year when I turn into a fish. You can find me floating in the lake pretty much every day, even if it’s just for a quick dip. I love soaking up the sun while being immersed in the cool water.

Be careful with the sangria. There is a sangria incident in my past that involved my friend calling her mom (who was vacationing in New Zealand) to ask her what one does, hypothetically speaking of course, when one spills an entire jug of (red wine) sangria on a white carpet.

I can’t wait to see your new tattoo! This summer I’m starting the new tradition of spending as much time as I can outside – I always feel like my whole summer is wasted when I have to work during the day so I’m going to take advantage of my mat leave :D I’m also looking forward to the football season starting even though the Esks have really sucked ever since I started getting season tickets.
So excited for June! I’m with you on the getting in shape stuff; I joined a gym last week and so far, I LOVE IT. Skinny Liz, we will meet again lol.

Girl! I have a delicious white sangria recipe (easier on the light clothing) if you’re interested.
I married a couple of recipes I found online and it was DIVINE. Bonus: one of the sites I pulled from was written by someone who was VERY PASSIONATE about the methods used to make the sangria.

Good luck on the tattoo today :)!! I’m with you – summer is all about being outside and getting more active. I love walking and swimming and biking and just hanging out on a patio somewhere having a drink with friends…ahh, that’s bliss :)! I have 4 weeks until vacation so I’d like to try and cram in as much exercise as I can to fit into vacation clothes :)

I love that you’re always so inspired. And I love your summer plan. You’ve even inspired me to put in writing what I’d like to accomplish this summer!
This is the first summer where I have time.. Lots of time. So I want to allot a bunch of it to becoming a better writer, to writing more often and to starting some bigger projects.
Your hopes seem awesome! Want to learn to make sangria together?
Best,
Hannah Katy
I hope your tattoo is everything you want it to be. I don’t really have any summer traditions other than avoiding the heat–though I’m sure we’ll find plenty to entertain and inspire here.

I just planted a bunch of herbs and I want to start using them. This means I have to make myself cook, even if I’m tired after work and only cooking for one. Or, I could just start having dinner parties!

I’m totally with you on getting active… I’ve been going for walks as much as possible, and I just ordered a treadmill for the bad weather days or the days I want to really pump up the incline.
My favorite summer traditions are:
sitting on a chaise outside with a good book
date nights involving walking to dinner and a movie
those double popsicles that you split in half
opening all the windows during a really great summer thunderstorm
Love the line about wearing things that look sun-faded or like they could be sidewalk chalk. :) My outfit today would totally fall under that classification. It’s a linen dress in a lighter purple color. Oh how I love summer dresses! :)
I have a great sangria recipe from Cooks Illustrated. I will email it to you! :)
My summer traditions are:
– sitting in an adirondack chair at the cabin, reading a book.
– running around the beautiful lakes of Minneapolis
– going on a date that involves ice cream from my fave ice cream shoppe, Sebastian Joes. :)

good luck with the tattoo! i’m sure we’d all love to see a picture of what you pick. my summer traditions tend to involve lots of sleep, lots of ice cream, and plenty of days filled with sun and friends

I can’t wait to see your new tattoo and no doubt – it’ll make me jealous and ready to do my next one, or make a current one bigger :) Summer traditions? Travel, I believe, is becoming a tradition and this year’s shaping up to be as busy as last year!
I’m all about embracing the summer of me – starting this Friday! I’m taking a day just for myself and I’m going to do whatever I want and not on any kind of timetable. I think this summer I’m going to really get my reading groove back – between that and continuing to train for my 10K I’ll be set! Can’t wait to see the new tattoo!

I have four tattoos myself, and that koi piece is just gorgeous!
I’m also on the making sangria bandwagon.

I just love your monthly inspiration posts. This summer I plan to learn to make sangria as well; I’ve been dying to try Maris’ pomegranate sangria recipe (http://www.ingoodtasteblog.net/in_good_taste/2010/05/pomegranate-sangria-1.html )! Other summer traditions of mine include exercising more diligently, relaxing at the pool for hours on end, and afternoons filled with sugary snocones.:)

I can’t wait to see your tattoo!
I need to get active. I’m thinking about joining a rock climbing gym. I would like my clothes to fit a little less snuggly as well.

Traditions?
Lazy Saturdays by the pool.
Going to see Dave Matthews Band in concert (which I’m doing on June 16th!)
A trip to the winery (or two)
Playing hookie once or twice during the summer as well.
The last thing about slowing down? I need to that. I get myself all worked up over school + work + social life. It’s kind of silly.
.-= Nora´s last blog ..Holidays =-.
Ah! Best of luck with the tattoo today darling. I cannot wait to see it. Your summer plans sound great and my plans for summer include much of the same — concerts with friends, reading on the deck, etc.
GOOD LUCK with the tattoo today and I’ll be praying it’s infinitely less traumatic than mine! (And then I will be by to steal your remaining T3s lol)
This June… I’m with you on getting in better shape. I’m ACTUALLY going to try hot yoga and make sure I run twice a week (once class is over next week!)!
I still need to take some good pics of my tattoo since it’s finally healed!! I don’t know if it’s something you would like necessarily, but I love it. :) Okay, next blog post = tattoo!
I love summer and I always try to set little goals for myself as well, this year mine are written here
.-= abby´s last blog ..with finality. =-.
Agreed with Bridget – picnics have to be on my list someplace! Other favorites are dresses (I don’t really do sundresses, per se, but dresses nonetheless), frivolous reads (I feel less guilty about them in summer!), white wine, flats from Target, and drinks with friends on bar patios.
Have fun getting the tattoo!

Oh sangria…delicious. I’m in charge of making it for a party our lab is doing in a couple weeks…yum.
And I think you missed picnics. They are definitely one of my favorite things to do. :)

I feel you on being active. I’ve gotten back on my back and feel so much better…and can eat more carbs…woo!

Yay for new tattoos! I need to get another one! My only summer tradition is to avoid the heat as much as possible. I’m a creature of the cold and do not like this muggy Alabama heat.
When you figure out how to make sangria let me know! I love the stuff.
