He’s My Mister, but I’m Jesse’s girl
I have to take a moment, just for a second. I’m really happy with my blog, but lately there’s been one thing that’s been driving me crazy: when I started this blog I made a semi-spur of the moment decision to just call my husband “Mister”.
It came from my nickname for him – I tend to call my close guy friends “Sir” or “Mister” and my close girl friends “Lady” or “Miss”, so I’ve been calling him Mister in day to day life for a very long time.
But now when I write “Mister” on my blog it feels… cutesy. And a little derivative. And like I’m forcing something that I’ve outgrown.
So, I’m making a change. While he’s also my Mister, Mister’s name is actually Jesse and that’s what I’ll be calling him from now on.
[ ps – he’s pleased to meet you :) ]
This is such a sweet and endearing post. Hi, Jesse! You are one lucky guy!
Jesse’s Girl is going to be stuck in my head all day! :)
“Where can I find a-a-a woman like that?”
:)
Nice to meet you, Jesse.
My husband goes by his initial – J – on my blog. (An awful lot of us seem to date/have married guys with J-names *g*).
I have never liked referring to Mike as my boyfriend, fiance, or husband – I mean, I’m glad he’s been all those things, but I *much* prefer to be around people who know who I’m talking about when I say, “Mike did this” or “Mike did that.”
PS: You two are cute. :)
Hi Jesse!
I just recently started calling Dana by her name. I kind of like it that way too. Occassionally I will call her lover lol :-)
:) I love it.
Yay for being married to Jesses :)
I thought for a while before I used the words “the boyfriend”. Nicknames are often grown out of or don’t same as relevant any more.
Hello Jesse!
So cute! Nice to meet you Jesse!
If I thought I could get away with using his real name on my site without being googled by the SIL, I would definitely call the Geek by his name. It feels so much more natural!
Anyway, adorable photo!
I’ve always liked how you referred to him as “Mister”, but I can understand your point :)
HI JESSE! I call Chris “Boyfriend” still, but he prefers it that way – term of endearment or something. Or because he won’t let me call him ‘punkin’ on my blog. Not that I do…
Awww that’s so sweet! So nice to meet him. You guys are adorable together!
That’s funny, I always thought you said Mister because you didn’t want to reveal his name! Lol :)
Pleased to meet you, Jesse!
aaww, hello jesse! :)
aw well hello jesse, pleasure to meet you :)
Hi, Jesse! So nice to “meet” you. Thanks for being such a good mister to Kyla :-)
So glad I’ve called Michael by his name from Day 1 on LfT… I have fretted over it a time or two but since HE’S the one always telling people he knows about my blog, I figure I’m safe. :)
I actually LOVE when he calls me Lauren, because usually he calls me babe or honey or something sweet, but when he says my actual name I get all sappy. Is that weird?
Either way, HELLO JESSE! & I think it’s safe to say I think you two are the cutest. <3
Hey Jesse *waves* And I agree with Steph Anne – good name match :D
Kyla & Jesse — your names together sounds really good together! I love nicknames and I really wish our names weren’t that complicated to combine them together like Brangelina.
Hi Jesse! And Kyla, you are so dang cute!
I’m glad you are calling him by his name :)
I still have such a hard time figuring out what to call my boyfriend on my blog. Since I have dated more than one boy while I have had my blog, I figure it is best to not use boys names on my blog until I get married one day. I don’t want my blog all run up with boys names all over the place. embarrassing… I don’t want to use any silly cutesy names. It makes me feel childish. So I end up just sounding totally goofy calling him goofy things like “my boy toy” or “boi” just because funny feels better than cutesy. Oh what is a girl to do.
aww, your mister is jesse! nice to meet you jesse!
When I first started dating Erik, I called him New Boy, but once we became “official” he actually requested that I called him “Erik.” He felt that New Boy made him sound like a thing and not a person and he didn’t like it. So for the most part, he’s been Erik. Now that we’re engaged, sometimes I refer to him as Future Husband especially when he does something romantic, but for the most part, it’s just Erik.
It’s perfect…you’re jesse’s girl, how fun is that? :) nice to mee ya jesse!!
What an adorable photo of your two! It’s nice to officially meet Jesse! :) It’s wonderful that you feel comfortable enough to let go of the longstanding nickname. Sometimes nicknames do wear out their welcome. :)
Oops! I meant “an adorable photo of YOU two!” :)
Well, hello jesse! Nice to meet you!
When I met you two for lunch I was so terrified that I would call Jesse “Mister” that I didn’t call him anything at all. I felt so rude snapping in his face and saying “hey! hey you! oi!” okay not really but I did feel rude not calling him by his name. So. I’m sorry, Jesse. It won’t happen again.
i wish your blog had a like button, because i would like this :)
I love this! I’ve always called my bf by his name on my blog. Anything else seemed cutesy, like you said, and I always wondered if I was missing out on something trendy, but Ryan is Ryan.
And Jesse is Jesse. Nice to meet you :)
Hello Jesse! :)
You guys are just too cute. It was so fun to meet you two! I love the dynamic that you two have – you are such a great fit for each other. :)
Hi Jesse!!! *waves*
:)
Oh I so know what you mean! I call my guy “Chef” on my blog and I’m getting pretty tired of it. I too call him “Mister” in real life… I think it started as a sassy “Listen here Mister!!!” And then it just stuck. :) I like that you’re callling him Jesse…I’m feeling inspired to do the same. :)
Haha, sometimes I wish I’d given Eric a nickname on my blog but then other times I’m glad I didn’t. It’s nice to just call people by what they are. Especially if you’re not anonymous :)
Hello Jesse!!
I call my husband “papi” at home (he calls me “mami”.. aww, so very cutesy no? lol.), but I would feel so uncomfortable calling him that on my blog. I haven’t asked him if he’s okay with it, but I too think using his real and actual name is just fine. :)
:)
Aww, cute photo.
Refreshing change is good.
I am sure Jason would prefer I use a pseudonym of sorts for him – but that train has come and gone. Glad you made this change before you went crazy. :-p
Nice to meet you, Jesse!
I have the song “Jesse’s Girl” in my head now:)
I have always wondered if I should call Dan something else. But I like calling him by his name just fine. :) It’s easier.
I have to confess that when we became Facebook friends, I was very excited to learn your husband real first name. :) Hi, Jesse!
Well, you two are just an alarmingly attractive couple! Nice to “meet” you, Jesse ;)
How cute is this? Love that photo. Glad that I don’t have to worry about slipping and calling him his real name in the comments anymore =)
And the mystery is revealed. Big steps, Kyla, big steps. Yay!
Confession: I always sort of worry when I leave comments that involve both you and him that I would refer to him as Jesse instead of Mister. Phew, load off of my mind. =)
Seriously though, I sort of understand the feeling of having outgrown something, its been in the back of my mind regarding the “small town girl” aspect of my blog.
I’ve been thinking about calling Husband by his actual name–which is Josh, by the way–on my blog, too. Husband somewhat comes naturally when I write, but I occasionally slip-up and use his real name, anyway.
Nice to meet Jesse! :)
What a delightful little post. Thanks for the smile!
:)
Nice to meet you, Jesse.
Ohhh, nicknames. We all tire of them eventually.
Hello, Jesse! Pleased to meet you. :)
