Friday Finds are Pumpkin Stencils
First of all, I loved all the movie suggestions from yesterday! I can’t believe that I forgot about Shaun of the Dead and Sleepy Hollow, my Halloween weekend just improved incredibly thanks to those reminders!
I had big plans this week to make my own pumpkin stencils, because carving elaborate crazy pumpkins is something I love and I was really hoping to make one available for download today. But this week was one where life got in the way, so instead I’m going to tip my pumpkin carving hand a little and hope it’s just as much fun…
Zombie Pumpkins is a fantastic resource if you’re looking to produce some impressive pumpkins. The site is loaded with tips on how to use their stencils, and over 200 stencils from movies and pop culture. The reason that I use them every year is that they’re so easy to use- they can be a time commitment depending on what you choose, but the stencils won’t steer you wrong and you can even sort the patterns by difficulty. There’s a small fee to download the stencils, and they’re totally worth the price if you’re feeling ambitious.
Last year I did Edward and Bella from Twilight, and they’re my favourite so far. I’m still considering making my own stencils- and I’m leaning towards something crafty! We’ll see if I can manage it by Sunday.
When was the last time you carved a pumpkin?
If you haven’t done it since you were little, I totally recommend it-
on the condition that it’s paired with a glass of wine.
I haven’t carved a pumpkin in ages. I really liked your bella and edward pumpkins last year. Can’t wait to see what you came up with this year.
I carved a pumpkin just yesterday! It was a lot harder than I remember it being. I also tried a difficult design though and broke my pumpkin, so I spun it around and made a face on the other side!
i did. just last weekend :) http://www.notcrazyunwell.com/?p=1246
i haven’t gotten to carve one this year and i’m SO bummed! it’s so much fun.
We’re going to carve pumpkins on Sunday, I think. Nathan’s never done one before, and it’s Topher’s first Halloween – so we just have to do one :) Your Bella and Edward looked amazing!
I don’t normally go in for Zombie movies (umm … at all actually), but I loved Shaun of the Dead. I laughed a lot.
Oh and I’ve never carved a pumpkin. Halloween was not done in my house growing up, but Luke and I talked about it last night. We’ll see how this weekend goes!
Generally, I am completely impressed with other people’s pumpkin carving skills. I recently watched the Food Network’s Pumpkin Challenge and it was masterful. I love this!
Just this week! We carved a cyclops pumpkin.
We are carving pumpkins tonight! I’m so excited! :)
b and i carved a pumpkin the weekend before last with our 6 year old niece. it was surprisingly harder than i remember and every bit as fun!
I carved a pumpkin earlier this month and it totally rocked. I mean, the design, not so much but the fact that I did one! I was original and carved my school’s initials into it :) So fun though.
Can’t wait to see how yours turn out :)
I used a drill for my pumpkin last year—and it turned out pretty darn awesome, if I do say so myself. :)
I haven’t carved a pumpkin in YEARS. I remember not being very good at it back then, and I highly doubt my skills have improved without use. But it does seem like a ton of fun. Perhaps I’ll have to pick a pumpkin and some carving tools up on the way home from work.
We carved pumpkins last night. Wine was involved. Result=my pumpkin would be awesome if it were carved by a particularly uncoordinated 4-year-old. But it was great fun and now we have a ton of pumpkin seeds to eat this weekend! Our scary movie of choice this year is The Exorcist – definitely the scariest movie I’ve seen.
Sooooo…I carved pumpkins a couple of weeks ago (accompanied by friends and beer). I had SUPER high hopes for carving a sweet Lord Voldemort pumpkin. And then I realized that would take WAY too long. So here I am, without a design. I start drawing bats and the HP logo, and am moderately satisfied.
Then I start carving…and everything starts breaking. And before I know it, I have a huge, gaping hole in my pumpkin (well, that could be because I got frustrated and punched in the wobbly sections like a 6 year old having a tantrum) After that, I added misshapen cat ears and off-kilter whiskers to the giant hole and called it a day.
Um….wine and pumpkin carving? I feel like for me that has disaster written allllllll over it!
I can not remember the last time I carved a pumpkin… We did carve them last years at work as part of a ‘fast, fun, friendly’ event at work… Which was my company’s motto…. Anywho. I think I was too exhausted to help out much…
i was hoping to carve one this year but it just didn’t happen… Maybe next year! I really wish I had found the time because I want the pumpkin seeds!
