Friday Finds are… Picnic Ready!
If I could go on a picnic today I would put on pretty vintage hat and pack bring a wicker case of crackers, cheeses, and some compote for good measure. I would put some lemonade in a thermos and bring my favourite vintage teacups (from my friend Bridget, who sent me a set for my birthday! /swoon) just to be a little fancy.
I’d grab a good book in case I didn’t bump into anyone to befriend, and I would decidedly not do any paperwork at all.
Sometimes I wish I could moonlight in the 1930’s & 1940’s, if only for an afternoon.
(It’s the no paperwork thing)
Vintage 1930’s hat from Dear Golden – $44
Vintage Nancy Drew Novel from Joy Elizabeth – $18
Vintage Wicker Case from Hindsvik – $29
Vintage Pyrex cups from Vintage by Alex Keller – $2.99 ea.
Oh my gosh- we HAD those cups when I was growing up! Who’d have thought they’d be vintage now. I have to tell my mom. She HATED them (mother-in-law gave them to her) and used to cheer anytime she broke any of those dishes from that pattern.
i’m smitten with the 40’s, too, and have a deep love for the fashions of that time. i’d happily join you at that picnic.
Cute! I have actually never been on a picnic – how sad is that? I think it would be a cute date, though. Love all your picnic finds!
That sounds beyond lovely. I’d come join you if I could!
Those are adorable finds! I’ve never been much of a picnic person because the heat and I just aren’t friends, but I’d take those teacups out any time!
Beautiful collage!
I love that hat from Dear Golden Vintage — gorgeous!

p.s. beautiful blog!
No book for you…I’d happily befriend you on a picnic! I don’t know who wouldn’t!
that hat is heaven!

Picnics are quite possibly the most wonderful summery things to do…I found a very cool old leather picnic case at a thrift store, so I’m slowly figuring out what I can fit into it…that first picnic is going to be just lovely, I think!
A picnic would be SO good right now.
I LOVE all of the things you pulled. The hat with the wicker case would be divine and of course the teacup is so necessary. Lovely!
i have the entire nancy drew collection of books. especially love the vintage ones!!
so funny, i have been itching to have a picnic for a while now, and this post made me want to have one even more!! i love those cups… and i really need to get a picnic basket.
The pyrex cups remind me of my grandparents. They had some.
I like your sense of simplicity. Beautiful posts!
I am in love with the Vintage Wicker Case! I’m going on a picnic this weekend in central park! I’m riding my schwinn beach cruiser, it’s so cute and retro!
It’s way too hot here for a picnic, but it sounds really nice!
I love picnics! I’d look like a goof in the vintage hat but I love the teacups :D My mom gave me a set of those when I gradauted high school and moved out on my own … I didn’t realize they were “vintage”, lol.
I LOVE Nancy Drew! My aunt has the entire series, published back in the 1950’s and when I was younger, I borrowed them from her. We’d go visit, and I was allowed to borrow four at a time, I think, and then the next time we’d visit, I’d return those and take the next few!
A few weeks ago, I was out on a winery tour in rural Virginia, and came across an amazing antique shop. Among my purchases was a vintage copy of The Secret in the Old Lace, which was one of my favorites!
How adorable! In love.
aww. I love this. I want to go on a picnic this weekend to the lakeside! thank you for the insperation <3
My mom’s plates match the teacup that’s not on the box in that picture! I’ve always thought of them as old and ugly, but when I see this, I see the beauty in them again :)
What a flashback, my grandparents have (had) the entire dish set of the lower cup in the photo. It’s “vintage” corelle from the 1970’s ;)
Oh, I used to collect vintage Nancy Drew books. I have a whole bunch of them back at my parents’ house.
Aww I love the hat and everything you’ve described here! It would be amazing to go back in time for just an afternoon :)
I am more than certain that my grandma has the same cup on the right in that photo, except in blue!
i’m sure i’d look crazy in that hat and yet i really want it for a picnic now. this is how i’m picturing it in my head:
family/friend/matt: how about we go on a picnic today?
ashley: a picnic? really? I’LL GO GET MY PICNIC HAT! *scampers away*
yep that sounds about right. have a great weekend!
I don’t think I’d look normal in a vintage hat… or any hat for that matter. I could definitely cozy up to a Nancy Drew book or two, though!
Sometimes I swear I was born in the wrong time period. Give me the 1940s or the 1970s, please :)
I died and came back to life after seeing this.
Ohhh love this! Makes me want to go on a picnic right now!
I saw the Nancy Drew logo straight away, though I’ve only been aware of the books recently. I like your idea, and a 1930’s picnic would be a great experience!
I love love love love the classic Nancy Drew books. They were my bread and butter when growing up. The new ones are hardly worth the honor of her name, but the old ones. Oh the classics. Amish, candles, staircases … all SO good!
