Friday Finds are for a Handmade Home
I love embroidery. It’s warm, personal, and quirky- especially when you look outside your grandma’s house for it! The hoops are so clean and modern, understated and utilitarian that I can’t help but smile a little when I see cute or sarcastic work hung in such a sweet little frame.
And it’s especially hard not to love when such a traditional kind of craft lets its hair down a little. It’s about time, right?

Have you ever tried embroidery?
I mangled some cross stitching last year, but I haven’t given embroidery a chance yet – I think I need to try!
Embroidery is on my list of things I’m going to learn to do in 2011. I have this grand idea of decorating my bedroom wall with embroidery hoops featuring different flowers. I have a book, I’m just waiting for the new year to begin. I’m really excited to learn.

hi kyla, i sponsored on your blog last month and i got wrapped up in a family emergency and totally didn’t get back to you with my profile info. you pulled it from my etsy shop and took care of it all for me, going above and beyond! sorry i was such a flake, thanks so much for everything! :)
Aw no worries Emily! I totally understand and I’m glad you’re happy with how the profile went :)
Visiting from FN! This post is so evil but in a good way. I so need all of those hanging in my office!
I love embroidery! I took some years off but am back into in. I just added some pieces to my shop, gooseandtrisser.etsy.com and have more coming after the new year. Hanks for finding these inspiration pieces.

Oh fun!
I like the one of the girl.
My mom used to do it a long, long time ago. I feel like she humored me and let me try it when I was really young. Thank you for reminding me of some lovely memories with this post :)
My babysitter used to do a TON of embroidery. Sadly, I never got into it but I love the ones you shared. They’re very cute and simple, just like I like it!
I am excited by these. I used to cross stitch as a kid, but I haven’t picked it up in years and I’ve never embroidered. I really should try!
I love the “Heat things up” embroidery so much! It’s darling!
i’m slowly getting more into embroidery. its a bit time consuming and i feel impatient most of the time with wanting the end result right now! but here’s one thing i made a few months ago that i looove :) http://www.flickr.com/photos/curiouspug/4336123850/in/set-72157623206597189/

I forgot to answer your question….I’ve never tried embroidery but I have done counted cross stitch before. Embroidery is on my list of things to try in 2011! Funny thing though, when my sister was little she called it counted crotch stitch ;) She had no idea. ha
I love those! Looks just like something I saved in my Google Reader from this website: http://www.weddingbee.com/2010/04/12/all-stitched-up-in-love-%e2%99%a5/ and the featured artist is from Etsy too! http://www.etsy.com/shop/MiniatureRhino But it doesn’t look like she has much of the stitching right now, but her sold section has quite a few and they are darling!
I love “Heat Things Up!” So adorable!
These are brilliant
Cross stitching I can do.
Embroidery… a whole different ball game. A whole different gorgeous ball game though. Love it!
Now I totally want to try embroidery! Maybe over Xmas break? Happy Friday ma’am. :)
When I was a kid, I LOVED embroidery! I used to make cross stitched gifts for people–sometimes following a pattern and sometimes making up my own. So fun! This reminds me that it’s just another thing I need to get back into. I love it reinvented like this! These are sooooo cute. LOVE. <3
I’ve recently taken the embroidery plunge and am LOVING IT! These look too fabby! great inspiration!
The first time I did embroidery, I was in grade 7 art class with Mrs. Anderson (did you ever have her, Kyla?). We made patchwork pillows and embroidered a million things, learning the different stitches and knots. I was hooked for a while, and then both art teachers (Mrs. Anderson and Miss Bonnett) left/retired. I stopped embroidering after that.
Now, I knit. :) But after seeing these examples, I’m considering it again! Thanks for sharing these finds with us!
I tried cross stitching last year and it was horrible. Oh, to be crafty …
OMG. I saw these types of creations on etsy a while back, and they inspired me to start thinking about one for our house. Operative words: thinking about.
So awesome, thanks for sharing!
I’ve been doing some embroidery over the past couple of weeks. I took a class at a local heritage museum in November too – mastered the french knot, finally! I see a lot of possibilities and future projects too :D Look out for a blog post on fiveblondes after christmas with pictures of an embroidered christmas present for one of my sisters!
I love these! I do enjoy a bit of embroidery and these have really inspired me!
Oh fun. I have never tried embroidery but I used to cross stitch when I was young!
Ohmagosh! Those are almost like I make! :)
