Easter Long Weekend

Alright, on to the fun parts of the Easter Weekend! :)

I started the long weekend off by sitting myself down on Friday and planning out my client schedule between now and January. I currently take on three large design clients per month and am trying to come up with a more balanced approach where I start two clients & then a few weeks later start another two, but it’s been difficult to picture what my year will look like until I charted it out. Jesse and I have been planning a mini-trip to Minneapolis in September, visiting our American family Florida in October, and I’m considering going to Toronto for the first time(!) in May, but blocking off any time from projects means a gap in income and missing time with clients that I’ve got to plan for.

It was complicated, but there was wine involved so I survived quite happily and knowing that I have a plan that will work for me and give me time off is a relief and energizing in its self.

… and yes, I did dye my hair back to brunette! It was a four hour marathon of cancelling out the red and it will fade out to match my natural dark brunette colour. I’m loving the new look & feel a lot like Snow White since Elsie pointed out the resemblance! I can’t wait for Halloween.

After having red hair for a while and loving it, I got worn down by how much of a big deal people made of it wherever I went. I know I commented about it a few times on Twitter, which some people were annoyed by, but I was genuinely surprised by how drastically it changed my daily life. I’m a friendly person, and people speak with me in public quite a bit no matter what, but with my red hair it was relentless. Every time I left the house someone would start a conversation with me about it, and while I usually have fun connecting with people but after a few weeks of constantly being stared at and asked questions of, I needed a change! The red wasn’t me, but it was lots of fun to try. That being said, by the end of it I felt like an anthropologist trying to understand why people were reacting to me like they were. Dying your hair isn’t hard and while it can be really beautiful, it’s not the craziest or quirkiest thing a person can do. Either way, I’m happy about the change and that I can go out without people trying to touch me all the time ;)

Saturday was the last Jets game of the season, and the deafening cheering that the fans are known for didn’t disappoint. Being a season ticket holder has been great and I’m excited for the next season’s schedule to be announced! Jesse has promised that he won’t choose multiple games a week like we had this year (I don’t like hockey that much, lets be real) and I can’t wait for the return of the little kids playing “Tim Bits” hockey at intermission. It’s so cute & hilarious, and needs to be televised in my opinion!

After the game, while we were still on the post-game high we went to a nearby photo booth to have a souvenir of the first season…

Before the weekend was over I got to stop in at the Bridge Drive In, a 50+ year old Ice Cream stand that just opened up for the season. I stood in line in the cold with other crazy people who wanted their first ice cream and got a delicious chocolate malt! I’m not big about eating dairy and it was painful to enter into my calorie & exercise tracker but I couldn’t resist its charm… or the short line up!

Easter its self was low key, full of amazing food and family. It was beautiful to take a little social media break while I needed it and to come back feeling more like myself, inside and out.

How was your Easter long weekend?
