Dream Home for Scattered Words
I’ve been having so much fun working on design projects lately, and I had an amazing time working with Holly from Scattered Words. I wanted to introduce you to her- she’s a new mom & horse lover who wanted a real life feel to her blog and for it to reflect her life. I’ll let you meet her, and then show you what we dreamed up together…
1. How would you describe your personality in 10 words?
Silly // Stubborn // Quiet // Analytical // Dreamer //Go-Go-Go // Patient // Compassionate // Ambitious // Firecracker :)
I didn’t have any great inspiration when I started blogging – it came about out of boredom, plain and simple! I was a junior in high school who wanted a platform to share my teenage angst – and blogging provided that. (Thank goodness I can now make those posts private :D) I’ve always loved being able to “meet” people from all over the world that I would otherwise never have the chance to connect with.
3. Having a custom design is a big step! How/when did you decide to make the leap? Did you have any worries about finding a designer who would “get” your style?
I thought about getting a custom design made for almost a year before I took the leap. I knew I could design what I wanted myself, but I also knew I didn’t have much time (or patience!) to devote to it. Being a wife, a new mom, and a part-time student – I struggle to find time to BLOG most days, so I knew I needed help from someone else! I’ve been following Kyla’s blog for ages and I’ve loved every single design she’s shared – so as soon as I heard she was joining Freckled Nest, I knew I wanted her to work on Scattered Words! I didn’t have any concerns at all that she would “get” my style – the whole process is very well thought out, with questions designed to help you figure what it is that you want for your blog. I sent Kyla the most random assortment of ideas for what I wanted but she was able to look at it and come up with the most amazing design that is ME.
4. Describe your perfect afternoon.
An afternoon at the barn with my family would be perfect – whether it was spent riding or just playing Beauty Parlour with the horses.
I love the blogging community. I love being able to share my thoughts and get feedback and encouragement from others. I love reading about the lives of people from different places in the world, learning about different cultures, being inspired.
One of my favourite recent posts is “Wrapping Up Another Year”.
For her design I really wanted to break from the digital look I’ve been working in lately, so I set up a photoshoot in the studio. I grew up around horses, so I knew I could set up a beautiful vignette if I raided my mom’s house! I grabbed her old riding boots and crop, ironed and starched some of her show ribbons, and chose some of my favourite horse care books that I grew up reading.
To make sure that Holly’s life was really present in the design I had her send me photos of her family and pinned them up with the collection, and made sure to include her one special request: a button that Holly’s mom could click for updates about her grandchild! I had such a fun time dreaming this up with her & getting to know Holly better- we’ve been blog friends for about a year, and it was so exciting to give her an online home that she can love and that will grow with her.

Great Job on the design. It looks really great.
I’ve been reading Holly’s blog for quite some time now and I think the design you did is just perfect for her Kyla. The amount of time/work/thought you put into each of your designs is so special and amazing. Very well-done!
