Dirty Tummy Time
This is our second spring with the puppies and since March has warmed up faster than anyone could have imagined, we’re suddenly well into puddles and potholes up here. While the snow banks are receding and little streams are rushing down the back lane, all the sand that has been strewn on the roads is rearing up- which means that any time the puppies go outside there is a mini-bath.
And after a week or so of this? There is a major bath.
I don’t know how I manage to forget about dirty tummy time every spring! Maybe I’m distracted now that I have a garden to plan for the summer…
Ahh! The breakup induced baths. Gotta love how dirty the dogs get out there with the melting snow and mud.

Just be lucky they aren’t white. We have two black dogs and one white one. The white one is impossible to get keep clean!

Aww. At least they get into the tub. I have to chase after my puppy and then I’ll get clawed to death.

Oh, we have the same problem every time it rains except for our dog totally dislikes anything related to grooming. And being a 170 lb puppy he certainly has his say most of the time:)
awe, i luv your puppies!! i want to get a dog so bad. once we know if we have our house for sure we’ll probably get one. yay!

Weird comment incoming, but, I am amazed how good of pictures you can get of your black dogs, lol. My poor black kitty never gets good pictures. When I take pictures of him, it’s like, “umm, what IS that black blob?” Haha :)

No, I know what you mean- it’s really, really tough!
This worked because the tub is high contrast and the white of it helped bounce the light around- what works for me is a ton of side light to help give them definition (by a window or sliding glass door maybe?), or if you have an external flash, playing with bouncing that off a nearby wall might help. Good luck!
They are totally hamming it up for the camera! But they’re super cute so I’ll let it slide :) Wow they both take up a lot of that tub!
They are absolutely freakin’ adorable!! :)

Leia gets dirty tummy all the time! And dirty front paws and snout, but thats from rooting around in my flowers beds. Naughty! I sort of love your dogs though. Wish we could get together for a play date!

My, what pretty wolf dogs you have. :)

When they were little they looked like bear cubs!
I could barely handle the cute.
Love your tub – I’ve always wanted one of those! Do your dogs enjoy taking baths? My parents’ dogs whimper at first but then I think they realize at the end how good it feels to be so clean.

They don’t love it, but they love being finished- I think they feel like they’ve been terribly brave. The moment they’re dry their coats double in volume and they just wrestle non-stop lol
I am kind of in love with your pups! Ours don’t get bathed nearly enough, but they don’t spend enough time outside to warrant freaking them out in the tub!
Those dogs are so cute! I love seeing pix of them :)

I looks like your puppies take the bath thing better than Sofie does. We don’t even have to say the word “bath”; she can tell by my actions (cleaning the sink, getting out the shampoo, getting her purple towel) that it’s coming. & she runs! She runs as if she won’t get caught. Sometimes she’ll run to Jonathan, hoping to seek refuge behind his legs… but he just turns her in, & she looks so incredibly pitiful.
Which is why I don’t give her baths as often as I should, because wrestling with a 7lb wet, soapy dog in the kitchen sink can be exhausting.
Your puppies are so cute! And I think “puddles and potholes” sums up the Winnipeg spring experience quite nicely :)

You are a brave lady, bathing both pups at the same time. I tried that once and ended up with a soaking wet (and still muddy) Wolfgang running around the condo.

Mister definitely came in as back up =) Usually it’s a one at a time affair, they’re good about it but I can’t stop them from shaking unless there’s a set of hands on them.
Those puppies are so cute! I get dirty cat whole body season down here.

You’d think with all that treadmill time this winter, their tummies wouldn’t be so close to the ground. hahahah.
Seriously, though, I know what you mean. I’ve stopped taking SoMi off-leash in the park because it’s one big mud bath!

They are so, so, so adorable! This is our first spring, and I’m not enjoying the mess very much. It doesn’t help that Gizmo isn’t too fond of the bathtub and will jump out if you don’t watch closely.
Ok, they look so well behaved!
Well they’re sweet, but we had to get doors on our bookcases because they were pulling books off and stripping the binding off them- don’t be fooled! =)
Every day I am so grateful for our mud room- because our boys get muddy.

Soooo cute. My dog HATES baths, like absolutely hates them so much she avoids the bathroom at all costs no matter what. I’m mean and took pictures of her in the bath once…

Oh no!! My moms border collie is like that- he won’t even set foot in the bathroom. Some dogs will just not do it no matter what lol
Oh how adorable are they?! I’ve always wanted a dog – damn being allergic!!!

Now to scoop up all the “gifts” in the newly snow-less back yard :S

They are so stinkin’ cute!
I have a husky and a miniature dachshund. The dachshund is a piece of cake to bathe – we can do it in a sink! But the husky has to be bathed outside – he is unbelievably hairy, and well, when he shakes, he covers our bathroom in his fur. It’s not pleasant!

My sneak attack is to cover them in the towel and then lift them out of the tub, they shake as soon as I put them down so that seems to be the best damage control for us!
Ash and Mal are so precious.
So cute :) Our puppy is white and loves mud and puddles – so she gets a major bath every time she comes in. At least she enjoys bathtime!
Um, I love the last picture! They must be a riot to live with. :)

Do they willingly get in your tub!? Or, do they at least try not to jump out of the tub? Poor Jack is terrified of water for some reason, so I have to treat him like a two year old who cries if he gets water in his eyes: put the water in a huge bucket. Fill a cup of water and calmly pour the water on him. It’s the only way. Who knew a 50 pound black dog could be so sensitive!? =)
Hooray for the garden… definitely want to hear more about that.

They really didn’t like it at first- what I always find crucial is not rushing it and stopping them from whining at all. If they don’t start whining they don’t get worked up about it, and we just take it slow. They get to see the shampoo bottle, then they smell the shampoo, then it goes one, then they see what the shower head looks like with water coming out, then only on their paws… lol
They don’t love it but by taking it really slowly they’ve stopped making it into a HUGE deal. I just keep in mind that dogs aren’t people, they can’t fake it. If they’re making distressed noises? They’re really, honestly, very frightened. Poor kids!
A claw foot tub! And adorable little pups! Your little guys are so cute.

I’m sorry, but I can’t seem to get over the fact that you have a FREE STANDING TUB. I want one so bad it hurts. Haha!
We might have to do a typewriter for tub exchange then! =)
…totally worth it! Puppies get dirty, but they’re so cute after a bath!
