Currently Loving
Sometimes I get so caught up in sharing links and resources that I drift away from blogging about what’s happening in my life, and that’s no fun! While I have lots of fun ideas for posts, I’m making sure that they all have lots of my heart and daily life in them. So, as a way to catch up, these are some of the things that I’ve been up to lately and that I’ve been really loving!
Lately I’ve been loving…
♡ Having Twin Peaks nights with my husband – Jesse and I just finished the first season and in an effort to close some pop culture gaps in our lives. Television has changed a lot since 1990. The show is good, but the differences are really interesting to watch. I can’t wait to watch the second season!
♡ Freckled Nest sleepover nights! On Friday, Leigh-Ann, Amber and I went out for dinner and then had a big sleepover- I think it was my first since I was in high school! We’re great friends and because we work together we see each other every day, but having time that was focused completely on having fun was wonderful. We watched 1985’s Teen Wolf with Michael J. Fox :)
♡ Having a new skin care routine – In the past month I switched over to using a Clinique 3-Step system and the improvement in my skin is pretty amazing. For the first time since high school I don’t need to wear foundation! I’m really happy with the changes and with my shiny new confidence.
♡ Knitting my first hat on DPN’s – I love knitting, but I’ve been pretty pattern shy since I stopped going to a local knit night. But if I don’t try, I’ll never start! I’m working on double pointed needles for the first time, with a simple pattern and high hopes. I’ll share progress pictures as soon as I’m further along. In the mean time, I’d love to hear any tips or favourite tutorials that you knitters can pass along.
♡ Being a vegetable based vegetarian – In an effort to eat healthier I’ve become Queen of Roasting Veggies for dinner, and in the past week my sister has expanded my food horizons by teaching me how to make really tasty stir fried meals. Roasted veggies are really delicious but they take a long time to prepare so I’m excited to have a fast and hearty option for dinner that doesn’t require lots of prep. Sometimes a girl just likes to wing it!
♡ Imagining what my friend who’s volunteering in Haiti is experiencing – One of my best friends is in a program where she’s training to become a naturopathic doctor, and this week she’s in Haiti volunteering with Naturopaths Without Borders! She’s giving up her only break in an extremely demanding program to help others, and I just couldn’t be more proud of her.
♡ Planning mini-trips for the spring and fall – After taking a break to visit Mexico last month I realized that unless I plan these get aways, they’re not going to happen. I’ve been dreaming up ideas for really unique, fun trips that aren’t a fortune so Jesse and I can make sure we get time to recharge our batteries and experience more together.
What were you up to this weekend?
I love the life updates :-)
Oh! I love sleepovers- it’s kind of fun pretending to be in high school again! My weekend consisted of lots and lots of painting homework and a bit of blogging fun :)
Ah! We just discovered the delishiousness which is roasting veggies too; have you tried roasting parsnip with apple? So good.
Love this! :) My mister mentioned Twin Peaks the other day, so I see it in our future, now…lol. And have you ever tried oven roasted radishes? It sounds weird, but they’re sooo good – you can throw them in whole to save on prep time, too. :) Om nom.
Your hair colour is AMAZING! Love it:)
BEAUTIFUL PICTURE!

Stunning photo. You are gorgeous.
Roasted veggies are my absolute fave, but I tend to have curries and stirfries a lot more often simply because I don’t want to wait the better part of an hour to eat!
Girl, how have you been a vegetarian all these years without stir-fry!? That stuff is my staple meal. It’s so easy (especially if you buy cut up, frozen veggies like we do), so tasty, and so nutritious!
Though, I do hear you about being a vegetable-based vegetarian. My food today consisted largely of baked goods. Heh. Oops.
Sounds like you’ve got lots of fun little things going on! :) I love sleepovers, but haven’t had one in a LONG time, as well! Sometimes I’ll stay at a friends’ out of convenience, but you’ve got me itching for one of those classic, super girly nights hehe :) It’s so cool that you’re such good friends with the ladies you work with- so important!
Also? I’ve never seen anyone rock red hair like you do, Kyla! Love that picture of you.
oh no, you did not just say twin peaks. such a great show. Ivan and I are planning on watching it again from start to finish for, um, the third (?) time since we moved into our new place. It is just so good. The second season gets weird!
Also, you look so pretty in that photo!!
I may have to check out the Clinique stuff! I just picked up a new moisturizer at our local Whole Foods Co-Op over the weekend, and I’m loving that, but I’m still looking for a good cleanser.
Good luck with your knitting! I’ve been so busy lately I know mine has been neglected! One of these days I’ll get back to it!
hehe I spent most of the weekend recovering from a Polka Dot overdose! (I picked up some great dotty items from forever 21 – praise that store!) but I just wanted to mention that I also started the Clinique 3step about 6 months ago and am really loving the results! I’ve always had a problem with acne and tried everything possible, but this seems to be taking care of most of it quite well :) yay! glad you’re getting results with it too :)
I work weekends, so mending sick hearts was on the schedule. I too am working with DPNs, but only knitting cup cozies. I remember watching Twin Peaks for the first time when I was in high school. I thought it was brililant. The fact that you watched Teen Wolf makes me smile. I love that movie!
My weekend was full of work ~super huge sad face~ Am savouring my one day off to catch up on blogs and take it very easy indeed! It’s wonderful you’ve been loving so many things lately, how exciting to spend your days full of what you enjoy!
I love that picture – you look amazing :) My weekend was full of outdoor adventures (it was +6 here yesterday – in February?!? That’s nuts!) and naps. The best kind of weekend, in my mind!
You do look stunning in that photo! :)
I love Clinique skin products. They always work so well with my skin, and I never find a product that’s good enough because my skin is so sensitive! That’s amazing that your friend is volunteering in Haiti. She’s doing a great part in helping the lives of people over there.
Minestrone Soup For the Teenage Soul
Okay first off, that picture of you? INCREDIBLE.
That’s so cool that you know someone who is Haiti right now – talk about giving back! (Also, can’t wait to see where your mini-vacation plans take you!)
This weekend I got to spend a lot of quality time with Ben which was absolutely fabulous…and then I almost had a panic attack in a craft store. (So! Many! Options!)
I love using DPNs, even though they are pretty intimidating at first. I’ve noticed that people are super impressed when they see you working with them since they look much more complicated than they actually are.
One tip that can come in handy: if you’re knitting something entirely on DPNs (especially when you’re still learning how to use them) it be helpful to cast on and knit the first couple rows on straight needles and then switch to DPNs. Just sew the little seam when you’re done. Since the first few rows are the hardest to wrangle, this can make it easier to avoid twisting stitches too.
Oh my goodness, you’re a knitting genius! I had to pull out my first few rows once because they were too loose and crazy- that could be the perfect solution. Thanks!
