Curtis and Candice are some of the most positive and determined people we’ve worked with this year. When Curtis was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2010, they took the news as a kick in the butt and a chance to change their unhealthy lives dramatically. They focused on mind, body, and soul and that journey changed how they live dramatically – and they share the benefits of that with their readers!

Curtis and Candice came to Freckled Nest in early 2013 when they were ready to take their services to the next level. They had begun coaching services, had written two books, but still felt that they were holding back their best work until they had the right platform to show it to the world. That’s where we came in – Kyla worked with Curtis and Candice to create the polished oasis where they could best help others.

Curtis and Candice on The Design Process

Why did you decide to take the plunge and get a website redesign for your coaching business?

We had been DIY-ing it for a couple of years and knew that if we ever wanted our website to look professional and make our blog look like a business, we needed to hire a professional designer.

Were there any lessons you had learned from having a website for your other business that you took forward into this project, or that were helpful in defining what you did or didn’t want?

We had a list of things that we didn’t want, but it was kind of difficult creating a list of what we wanted for our new site. It is really hard to start with a blank canvas. The most important thing for us aside from having a beautiful design, was to place key information and hyperlinks in high-traffic locations.

Is there any advice to other small business owners that you wish you knew before you started a big project like this?

Compile a list of websites that you like, in other industries from the one you are in, then get specific about what it is that you like and don’t like. This process takes a while so start now even if you aren’t ready to build a new or redesign your current site.

Curtis & Candice

Because Curtis and Candice are so hands on, Kyla specifically focused on building a design that would be easy for them to update and adapt on their own as their coaching practice grows, and as they have more products to sell. With detailed video training and Q & A sessions they’ve been able to create, promote and sell new eBooks on their site since they launched, without having to worry about bringing in outside experts.

We love helping clients adapt their sites as they grow, and finding chances to create a site that fits their personality and priorities.
