Friday Feature: Handbag Love
Because I work in and live and die for good design, I’m starting a Friday feature, where I feature design and fashion that I can’t do without. Enjoy!
Big Shoes for New Bag To Fill (Itemized):
- Handles must not slip off my shoulder when wearing a parka.
- Handles must be at right length so I can carry the bag on my arm without it looking out of proportion.
- Material must not freeze & shatter from cold easily.
- Material must not look like it was made for mountaineers. Or at least stylish mountaineers, damn it.
- Must fit my lunch bag without allowing it to peek out on the bus and make me look like someone who takes their lunch bag to work.
- Must NOT be black, no more blacks or grays!
- Please, please, please, please, please let it be pretty?
$55 at one of my favourite Winnpeg stores!
This is the bag the 2008 – 2009 football pool bought me. Can you see why I like football?
Have a good weekend everyone, I’m at work from 8 am – 11 pm today with another opening night. Ah, the exhilaration of working in the arts! There is champagne to pour, and I’m the girl for the job. Look out!
Today I am also going to be talking a recruiting agency that has contacted me and will be starting to set me up on interviews. That it’s starting to happen is strange, exciting, happy and sad. In an effort to tempt fate, I informed Mister last night that I have indicated to the agencies I’m speaking with that I will move to Minneapolis, Chicago, or Austin at the drop of a hat if I can get sponsored into the country, and that he’ll have to quit his job and move with me when that happens. He thinks I’m joking, poor boy. I think he’ll adapt well after the shock wears off.
I’m also going to be attempting to figure out some strangeness that has happened with the paper work of our marriage. Somehow we were never issued an official marriage certificate from the government, and we haven’t been told why – and with all my identification documents in the mail with other government branches things are starting to look like there has been some mistake made along the way. Other parts of the government are requiring the official certificate to process the change, and our marriage from September seems to still be unregistered. I hope it’s not too much of a mistake! If it turns out I’ve been single all this time there will be some serious fist shaking at whoever is responsible. Hopefully I can get it all in hand!
oh hai, i’m over here, makin’ out with your bag.
srsly, kyla. let’s be friends and go purse shopping. i can’t ever buy bags that cost more than approx. 40 bucks, because, well, uh, i get a new one maybe 6 times a year? yeah. i haz problemz. :)
“Handles must not slip off my shoulder when wearing a parka”
WHAT IS THE SECRET TO THIS!?!? I get so frustrated when this happens to me oh, uhmm … every day! Please share.
Umm material can freeze? Dear lord, I don’t know how you live with that sort of cold! I would probably break down in tears each time I went outdoors.
I hope more designers listen to you! I hate bags that constantly slide off my winter coat … it drives me insane (although admittedly less so now that I live in the suburbs and don’t walk quite as much).
Did you have a handbag that actually froze and shattered? What was it made of?
Of course I voted for you!
Ugh, and good luck with all that marriage/paperwork/government madness. Hopefully it’s an easy fix :)
oh! i love that bag! i want i want i want!
I just got a new bag (for christmas) from amazon.com and i love it. You wouldn’t believe the stuff you can find on there!
Kyla – that is crazy about the paperwork issues! I hate paperwork, and may skip th ewhole marrige thing because of it. If I am single forever, I will partially blame you for that!
I voted for you over, multiple times! I think you rock.
I’m totally with you on finding a strap that doesn’t continually slip off if I’m wearing a coat, etc. It’s hard to remember to test all of that stuff before buying too.
3 things:
1) I love the bag.
2) Please move to Chicago.
3) Congrats on the noms!
I have a big brown bag by Matt and Nat and you would have a hard time convincing me it isn’t the most perfect bag in all of existence. It’s a couple years old now so I can’t find a picture. I can’t believe I’ve been using the same bag for two years and haven’t grown sick of it.
Annnd congratulations on the nominations!
Love the bag!!!! Personally, I love big bags!!! If it were possible to carry around my entire bedroom in my purse I would totally do it.
Also….Sorry about all the confusion with your marriage papers. If you have been single all this time maybe you will just have to have an excuse to celebrate and request gifts from everyone when it becomes official! ;) Have a great weekend!
Oh my goodness. That bag? It’s perfect and so beautiful!
Good luck with the agency. That’s really exciting for you, and I know something good is going to come from it!
I just wanted to tell you that absolutely nothing irritates me more than a bag with straps that slip off your shoulder. That bag is wicked cute. Happy Weekend.
I love that bag! It is one of my biggest pet peeves when the strap falls off my shoulder.
Good luck with the paperwork.
And, congrats on the nomination!
Kyla, that is such a beautiful bag! I tend to carry around a bar of similar size because I bring a ton of crap everything! I actually cleaned out my purse last night and was horrified by the amount of crap I had in there.
(Also, I voted for you! Congrats!)
Love, love, love the bag!!
And congrats on all your nominations!! Much deserved!
super cute and classy. i have a hard time finding good shoulder bags that actually stay on the shoulder as well.
I’m on the lookout for a good handbag myself, of course I just made the decision to tighten the budget up so I may have to make do for awhile. That one is adorable, yay for football winnings! :)
And good luck with the job hunt and the government! ;)
oh that bag is adorable, i love it. so cute. i would also recommend checking out funtote.com if you want any more bags. granted they are pretty bag, but i sort of love the one i have :)
There are a few things I’m always searching for – the perfect t, perfect jeans, and perfect bag.i REALLY want the fern glen tote from Anthropologie .. it’d have to be a big big football pool for me to buy that baby..
OOOOOH PRETTY BAG.
i like mine big enough to hold a small book, but no bigger. i’ve only recently upgraded to Big Girl Purses at all :-P
I love that bag! My main criteria is that it HAS to be big enough to hold a book. That’s pretty much it! Also, I’m with Jane, Austin!!!
Congrats on all your nominations–you definitely deserve them all for being you and being fabulous!
I was all ready to comment about your gorgeous & reasonably-priced purse when I saw Chicago make its way into your post. Really?!?!?! I have an aunt who works in the theater industry … too bad you’re looking for a change of pace. =) If the longshot becomes more of a reality, let me know if I can be of help …
Love the bag.
What type of job are you looking for?
Yes, do move to the States and the maybe we could be real life friends =)
Oh, and you already know I voted for you!
Good luck tonight, I’m sure it will be a dazzling event and the champagne will be the best poured in all the land.
Congrats on the nominations! I hope you get the marriage stuff figured out. Paperwork-based stuff like that makes me crazy.
Cuuuute bag! And, I voted for youuu! :D
I pretty much have the same requirements for bags as you do. I love the one you picked out. I think even I could get into football if I could get something like that out of watching it.
What kind of job would you be taking? You should definitely move to Chicago. I don’t live there but it’s close enough and it’s fabulous there. Good luck!
Already voted for you…I love the design on your page.
That bag is adorable!
Hooray for possibly moving into the states!
Love the handbag!!
How can you not have your marriage certificate already?! What is wrong with governments? Can’t they get their silly paperwork in order already?!
Yay for the new feature! How fun! And ohmygosh I love that purse! SUPER cute! Yeah, I agree with you – its so annoying when a purse slips off your shoulder because of your jacket.
I voted for you! Good luck! :) And good luck tonight at your job — have fun! You have such a great attitude, btw!
bea’s knees is the cutest thing ever! i love the bag, it’s gorgeous, a lot like the one i am carrying around now.
yay for talking to a recruiting agency, thats a huge step! i hope it all works out for you love!!
xoxo
If football got me bags like that, I’d like football a whole lot more. Haha
Also, you better believe I voted for you.
I love the Bea’s Knees idea. So cute, and with such a great title.
The football purse is gorgeous. I just got a pretty purple/grey faux croc purse that fulfills all those categories. I used it the other night as an overnight bag even when I stayed at the Boy’s house.
Love the bag! I voted for you!
Cute bag…your bag criteria is great, except for the “black” rule in my opinion!
I love big handbags! They are my absolute favorite accessory. Working in the arts as you do sounds so great. I used to act in plays at our local theater and there is nothing quite like an opening night — all the emotions and nerves, the statisfaction after its over. Have a wonderful time and a great weekend!
I’m putting in one vote for Minneapolis. Especially if I am there! Eeek! And if I get a dog! Dog walk? Yes!
Very cute bag!
And I wish I could vote…sad. I’m certainly rooting for you!
looove that bag! so chic.
congrats on the nominations! i voted for you.
Ooh, Austin. Ignore the weather in July-September and think of the loveliness of the rest of the year. Good luck with the interviews!
Wow… good luck on that whole marriage issue. That must be an awful feeling. But awesome that you’ll be going on interviews and possibly moving state-side! Have a fantastic opening night.
MINNEAPOLIS!!! :) Ok, so I’m slightly biased, but it’s a lovely, lovely place. And I’d take you out for drinks if you did come here. Good luck with the interviews!
Love the bag! Congrats on all the nominations. I’m not a member so I can’t vote but I’m rooting for you! Hope things get straightened out with your marriage paperwork soon!
I love that purse…sadly that color would look horrible on me :-(
Good look sorting out the paperwork issues!
I would love football too if I could get a cute handbag out of it!
I wish I could work in the arts, sounds fun! Then again, not working at all in the meantime suits me fine too.
Lovely bag!
As much as I’ve spoken out against the manbag, I so wish they were socially acceptable. My life would be very enriched by having emergency or necessity items on hand at all times.
Good luck in your search and congratulations on the well-deserved nominations!
