An Intention for December
This December, I want to savour.
I want to slow down my thoughts so I’m not out of the moment before it’s started, and slow down my pace when I’m at home so I really feel every ounce of sweet moments with my husband or the success of a great work out instead of just rushing to the next thing. I want to be wrapped in the safety of friendship by catching up over wine and the fireplace channel (the best invention ever) and sharing the early morning ritual of warming cold hands on thin cups of hot coffee while car seat warmers (the second best invention ever) heat up before the rest of the car does. I want packages of beautiful things from small businesses all over north america to arrive every day, so I can give pieces of someone’s dream to my friends and family over the holiday. I want to memorize exactly how my puppies wiggle in mid-air when they start jumping as I open the door at the end of a long day.
December can be easy to be swept away in, but for me, taking a moment to savour the little moments that knit everything together can slow down time to a stand still.
They’re beautiful when you can find them – and I hope you do – so I’ll keep an eye out for you between the big stuff :)

beautiful post. thank you for share your intentions. intentional. i might just steal that. it might be my word for 2012. intentional. it sounds like the word i’ve been looking for.
Aww. My grandma makes afghans like in that top image. I have a couple of them and I always seem to forget about them. I should get them out and actually use them. I don’t know why I feel the need to “save” them. That’s not what she meant them for.
I love this and need to do this more. I have been a busy bee for a while and need to seriously relax and chill.
I completely agree! December really is for savouring. I can’t wait to get back to the prairies and do just that :)
This is lovely! Happy December gorgeous lady.
So beautifully put :) I need to try to do the same.
Darnit, I meant to say “those you love” lol
That is the best gift you can give to yourself and to those who love.
Lovely post. My December is an odd one this year with my birthday & changing jobs halfway through the month before we get anywhere near Christmas so taking time to appreciate small moments works for me ;)
So lovely! The best way to handle another year ending is by savoring it and slowing down so you can enjoy all the little things. :)
I love you for writing this.
And now I have declared my love for a stranger over the internet, I am going to follow the lead and enjoy the moment that is calendar day! Yey for chocolate!

This is absolutely lovely, Kyla.
What a lovely sentiment. I love the thought about giving a piece of someone’s dream to someone you love. That’s such a great way to think about it. It’s so important to shop locally if you can. I want a peaceful, memory filled December too.

That is so pertinent & beautiful!!! I vow to do the same!
This is a great intention, especially at this time of year which is usually more about the hustle and bustle than savoring the simple moments of the month.
What a lovely post :) I especially liked this line: “I want packages of beautiful things from small businesses all over north america to arrive every day, so I can give pieces of someone’s dream to my friends and family over the holiday.” I’m not remotely crafty but I like to buy handmade – I can live vicariously through others and support their businesses/dreams at the same time!
That was nice. I am trying to not get overwhelmed with the fact I have only done a tiny bit of gifting, and still have so much more to do.
Beautiful post!
Lola & I are going to come get comfy with you in front of the fireplace channel. Or, I will, at least. She’ll probably terrorise your pups instead.
I can’t wait to slow down and savour later on this month. December is always so hectic with class and holiday whatnot for me, and you’ve made me stop and remember that I need to slow things down a notch and enjoy (something I know I don’t do the best job with ><;)
And that green blanket stopped me in my tracks! My gram made me a pink afghan just like it when I was little and it's sitting on my bed! So pretty :)
Great December resolutions, I hope you can make them come true!
Also love the pics in this post, especially the green blanket, it’s so pretty! Did you make it yourself?
I would love to have made something that beautiful myself! It’s actually being sold by an etsy artist, you can see the listing here & the rest of the items pictured are also for sale and listed at the end of the post :)
Nice post Kyla! I could almost see your pups jumping in the air when I read that part.
