An evening walk with the monsters
I love when the weather starts to get colder because something happens to the animals in my life… they become cuddle monsters! It’s like they know the winter is coming and want to be firmly in the good books before the snow flies so they don’t become strays between now and then. Every morning this fall while I’m getting my coffee, the puppies have been milling around, begging for hugs and staring at me with eyes that say “We adore you and being inside when it’s cold out, Lady Who Feeds Us. Do you remember how soft I am? Do you remember how badly you wanted a dog when you lived in an apartment? DO YOU? Of course you do!!”
Of course I do.
Of course I also remember the look the cable customer service girl gives me every time she see’s the number of remote controls we’ve had to replace in the past two years, because she’s charging us for yet another.
But the cuddly little guys always win me over, and this weekend as the sun was setting (so early!) we grabbed the camera and the puppies and ran outside for a play in the last bit of sunshine…
They might be monsters, but at least they’re our little monsters! I can’t wait for the first snow fall, we have their little boots ready to go and they love tearing around in the snow and sliding around like they’re little seals.
ps- I got a hair trim last week and came out with what I’m calling a “fauxmpadour” because it’s not quite a pompadour but I still feel like I should be auditioning for indie girl rock bands. I’m kind of in love with it :)
They are so cute! Now that the summer heat has passed in Virginia my dogs (husky mutts) are all about being outside. They live for cooler temperatures.
Oh remote controls and dogs… I laugh every time I see the remote that the dog chewed up. It has deep grooves in it, but I just figure it adds character. ;)
Ooooh these are such cute pics!! Such adorable little monsters. ;)
lol Thanks Lisa, I’m glad that they’re mine
Although some days when they bark a lot? You could totally borrow them if you liked.
Honestly. Just say the word. ;)
Your pups are sooo cute! Also, this is off-topic, but a few weeks ago you posted about art and wondered about hanging paintings on the wall. I finally got a post up about the stuff my sister painted for my place! (Shameless plug, yes, but I wanted to give you credit for inspiring me!)
Did you?? Ah! Heading over there now!
Also that’s not a plug, that’s giving a blog friend a heads up that she’s been looking forward to, big difference :)
YOUR HAIRCUT IS AMAZING!!!! I freaking love it. So, so awesome!
Aw thanks so much Hannah! Something you would appreciate: it means I need a sweat band for hot yoga since I have such tiny hair now lol
They’re so cute! I’d love to have a dog or cat one day,
They’re such a nice companion, I love having little souls around me all the time! :)
First of all – you are rocking with your ‘do!! Love that look on you – wish I could pull it off! And yep – same here – our dogs become so cuddly now too! Of course this doesn’t bode well for sleeping – they tend to curl up right up against us!
I’m glad that I’m not just a crazy dog lady who imagines that the cold brings out the cuddly in my guys! lol Mine still sleep in their kennels because their guard dog tendencies wouldn’t let us sleep through the night if we left them out- I would love to though, someday!
they’re so cute! and so are YOU! you are adorable as always. <3
Aw thanks Kelly Ann! They make me so happy, and I think that shows :)
I mean, your hair is just STRAIGHT UP AMAZING.
Ha! Thank you so much Chelsea! It’s fun and crazy- but don’t get me started on yours! You’re just astonishing! Hawt with a capital H! :)
cute pics!! thanks for sharing!
Aw thanks for stopping in and saying hi, Leslie :)
Love your monsters<3 I've got one too=)
Oh I haven’t seen yours on your blog yet, I’ll need to find pictures stat! :)
They are so cute! And your hair is lovely. :D
Thanks so much! They’re my sweet little guys- I can’t help but cuddle them :)
I LOVE your hair! And your dogs are so adorable! I’m terrible with breeds, but whatever they are, they are precious!
My dogs are actually a very strange breed, I’d be surprised if you knew what they were! They’re called Schipperke’s (skipper-keys), and they’re full grown at 18 lbs each :)
Cute pictures!!! Promise me when it does snow, you’ll take pictures of your cute little monsters with their boots on! :)
I’ll do you one better! I’ll pinkie swear :)
I love this post so much! And your hair looks AMAZING. You seriously have the best, most unique style!
Thanks so much Kara! Personal style is not my strong suit but I’m working on finding one that works for me :)
You and your pups are so adorable! And do I spot a new hair cut and color?
LOVE your coat and scarf<3
You did! It’s actually not as red as it looks here, but both are new. I just love changing it up… but I’m running out of hair to change it up with! I guess I’ll have to let it grow for at least a little while :)
I LOVED seeing Adley and Radish interact with snow for the very first time last February–they cracked me up, but I think they’re naked and bald enough that they’re far happier in the Texas sun for now.
Your hair looks amazing!
I think they probably are happier in Texas too! :)
Last year was the second time the dogs saw snow, but it was like they didn’t know what it was- Mal was fascinated and just sat looking up for hours. I think today or tomorrow we’ll be getting it again and I can’t wait to see their reactions!
Awww I love the pictures of the pups and you with them! Looks like good weather for a furry photoshoot.
It definitely has been! I love that I can still be outside and enjoying the weather in November, we’ve been lucky so far with it!
I love! the cut. And those glasses! And how cuddly pups get in the winter. Iggy is pretty cuddly every night, no matter what season it is, but I love how he takes to occupying the space directly in front of the furnace in the colder months.
Mal does that too! As soon as the heat gets turned on in the fall he starts cuddling up to the registers in our house, like he’s a cat in a sunbeam! :)
I am beyond in love with your hair. You look so beautiful!
:)
Ah! Kaylah, you made my day- your hair is my dream hair! When I can make the transition to be a full time artist I’m going to dye it a crazy colour to celebrate :)
Fact: Animals are cuddlier in the cold. My cats are all up on me all the time.
AND I LOVE YOUR HAIR.
Fact: I’m kind of relieved I’m not just a crazy animal lady who imagines these things! :)
One day I’ll have a pet… one day!!
Ha! I had a hamster when I first moved out because I really wanted a pet but couldn’t have a dog or a cat- my only vote is that when you get a pet? Skip the hamster. It’s not a good scene.
tooo cute!! yay for cuddle monsters!! :D
You can’t beat them! Cuddle monsters are definitively the best kind of monsters :)
You are rocking the new hair style! :)
Thank you so much! I’m having a lot of fun with the new crazy look :)
Oh my hell – your hair is adorable!
Ha! Thanks Hillary! I’m having a lot of fun with it, it’s a little bonkers but then so am I :)
i love love love love love your little monsters. i let out a huge awwwwwww whenever i see pics of them.
Could you imagine our dogs all in the same place? It would be so much cute! <3
Awwww! I wanna steal them.
Oh my goodness, there are many days where you would be welcome to- if only temporarily ;)
Great photos! I love the faux pompadour! So rock ‘n roll!
Ha! I know, right? I feel like I should be standing outside a venue somewhere auditioning to be a back up singer for Tegan and Sara. It’s crazy but fun :)
Your haircut is awesome.
Your dogs are precious.
Pictures of their boots? Yes, please!
Done and done! As soon as the snow flies there will be a dog boot photoshoot coming your way. Which is a sentence I never really thought I would say, but there it is! :)
The new hair looks fabulous!
And my gosh, the dogs are so freaking cute!!
They’re so wonderful and crazy- I just can’t help but love them :)
I can’t focus on the dogs right now because OMG YOUR HAIR. I love it.
lol Thanks so much Kate! I’m having fun with it, and that’s the best part :)
oh my gooooooooooood oh my god oh my god oh my god i LOVE YOUR HAIR SO MUCH. Kyla, YES, this is awesome. you look so great! It is super unexpected and balances the sweetness of your glasses and pretty face with a little bit of edgy-ness in the hair. i LOVE IT.
Thanks so much Moorea! That’s definitely what I was going for- I love balancing my girliness with my edginess- I’m still trying to find my style but I think this is a fun way to test new waters :)
The pups are so cute…but, OH MY, your haircut is fabulous!!! Love it.
Thanks so much Mags! I’m really enjoying it- it’s a little more edgy and I think it suits my personality perfectly :)
What adorable little monsters you have. And so photogenic. I need to dig out the sweaters and buy some new boots for mine.
Your guys wear sweaters?? SO cute! I haven’t taken that plunge yet, I don’t think mine would tolerate that. I think we need to see your guys in their winter outfits. Just sayin’! :)
Those pups are friggin adorable! They must be so much fun to have around. :)
They’re a lot of often much needed comic relief :)
I seriously adore your pups. They are so freaking cute!!! I think it would be worth a chewed up remote or two ;)
I am so in that place where I’m “apartment living” and can’t wait to get a dog. Seriously! Think about it EVERY DAY! :-)
I know what you mean! It’s such a hard feeling knowing that you want them and that you can’t have them- it’s why we bought our house! When you can have a dog it’ll be the happiest thing in the world because of your runs! :)
Love the haircut and of course love the puppies (but I think you already knew that).
I spent some quality time with jack outside over the weekend as well and it was just divine. Loved it.
Can I trade places with Jack for a day? He could play with the puppies and make them less lawless, and we could have coffee and run around the city stirring up trouble! :)
I love the winter because I have my own personal 11-lb. space heater in the form of one Harry cat. It’s the best.
Also, yes to seeing the boots, please.
Oh I miss having cats for that!! We had giant cats at my mom’s house that would be more than happy to keep you company for hours on end- there’s nothing like them! Dogs are cute, but lets be honest, they’re squirmy and demanding lol
Also, you + me + skype = heaven.
Let’s make it happen! <3
Your puppies are just the sweetest things! I’ve been house/dog sitting since Wednesday and it has been fantastic. I think it’s time to adopt my own again…:D
Oh dog sitting sounds like the perfect preview of ownership! My only recommendation? I might wait until the snow flies and see how you feel about walking them in the winter. Or, you could come to my house and walk mine in the winter to test it out?
You know you want to… ;)
Your hair is fantastic! I’ve seen a lot of that type of ‘do on X Factor this year, and you wear it fabulously :)
Oh I’m not versed in the ways of X Factor like you are, but if that means I look a little European I’ll take it ;)
The puppies are adorable and I love your new haircut! The cold weather makes my golden want to cuddle more too, the only problem is she’s a bit big for being a lap dog. That doesn’t deter her though, if it means you can’t breathe but she can share the arm chair with you, she’s entirely ok with that.
The dog at my shop is the exact same way- he’s the same size as Sandy but always wants to cuddle the staff and customers! He makes my day :)
Such cuties. Do you remember that little video you made of them on the treadmill? That’s when I first fell in love with those little faces.
This weekend we came across some min pin puppies for sale. Jeremy kept trying to talk me into getting a brother for Toby. At one point he said, “Well, that blogger girl has two little black dogs. If she can, why can’t I?!”
The argument didn’t work, but it did make me laugh. :)
LOL I love that I was an argument for another puppy in your life! Our reasoning for getting another was that even as a little guy Ash was extremely high energy and intense, we knew we wanted to have two eventually and having another puppy to keep him in line and amused seemed like a good way to help him out. And considering we didn’t sleep through the night for the first three months we had them, we didn’t EVER want to do that again!
It’s a good thing puppies are cute, or no one would have them! lol
Aww, cute puppies!!
I have a cat whose name is Monster. Well, it was not his name originally, but we changed it after using Monster so much because he was a rebel =)
I love your hair!
One of my first cats when I was little was named Monster too! It’s the perfect name for a cuddly little rebel :)
Erik really really wants a dog, so I’ll have to make sure he doesn’t see this post or he’ll keep pestering me. I myself am more of a cat person, but your dogs sound wonderful. :)
Ooh, I vote you get a bunny as a halfway point! They’re as quiet and soft as cats but a little more personable ;)
And then I vote that you invite me over so I can get bunnies in my life!
Your dogs are so beautiful.
Liking the haircut. At one time, I had a cut similar to it. I felt so stylish with it, yet it took hardly any time to make it look good. Short hair really suits you.
Thanks so much! My hair is so thick that it gets unmanageable when it’s long- I love how easy my short hair is :)
The weather got cool here a few days ago, and ever since then my dog has been sleeping under the covers with me. I love it!
Under the covers? Oh my gosh, that’s so cute! My guys still can’t sleep outside of their kennels without staying up all night, running around the house, and generally causing a lot of havoc! I wish we could, it would be so nice to wake up to their little faces :)
So adorable!!! I was going to say it looks like you got a haircut – so cute!
Thanks Becky! It’s a little crazy but I love it! :)
Yay, I love your puppy posts! Your little monsters are absolutely adorable. I’d love to be able to put Zooey in boots (she’s super picky about walking in wet grass, so I don’t know how she’ll do in the snow) but I don’t think she’ll let me!
I don’t think that any dogs enjoy them- while it makes our guys more comfortable they always look more than a little demoralized when we put them on them.
Can you take a picture of them in their boots and blog it?
Oh Susan, you just try to stop me! ;)
Aw puppies! what boots do they wear? i’m intrigued!
And i love the hair.
We found some really great boots for them online that have little rubber soles on them (lol) and go up their legs a little bit. In the winter because they’re so little and it gets so cold here it can be very hard for them to go on walks without the pads on their feet freezing, so the boots help us give them enough exercise while keeping them comfy :)
