An Amber in the Prairies
I’ve been waiting for this weekend since I met Amber six years ago- after countless hours on the phone and email, old apartments and new houses, a wedding, job changes and a lot of growing up, I can’t imagine my life without this girl and showing her my city was an incredible amount of fun.
I showed her all the places I’ve been telling her about since we met, she was able to see our little house and the puppies, and even met my crazy, wonderful family. There was a lot of thrifting (and a little mending our finds), Amber got a very cute tattoo & I got the other side of my nose pierced – which didn’t hurt as much as I remembered at all! (I have it in the picture above, but I’ll post a bigger picture this week too.) We went out to a tweed ride and a giant street festival of lights, full of mini doughnut, candles and families watching light displays in the towering trees that stretched above their heads. There were even video game nights & Swedish vampire movie marathons, and staying up too late talking about everything we could think of.
Showing such a good friend why I’m so in love with my funny little city has been a beautiful way to end the summer, and to rest in a place that’s full of arts & culture, puppy cuddles, amazing food & laughter. Sometimes when I look back at this year, I focus on the bumps along the way instead of what I’ve learned and all the moments of happiness and certainty. When I work on changing my focus, I feel like I can see everything much more clearly and from here it looks like this life is a beautiful and mysterious gift that’s mine to get lost in.
I’m so lucky to wander through it with Amber and the amazing friends I’ve found along the way, and I’m so thankful that you’re reading along for the ride.
So thanks for that, from the bottom of my everything :)
Amber! Seriously kickass tatttoo! Perfect placement! :) <- that's me smiling just like you told us to.
mini doughnuts make everything so much better
That sounds like such a wonderful weekend! The tattoo is so lovely and your nose ring looks cute as well. I love when people come to visit! It’s like a mini-vacation for yourself as well.
Yay!

You are the best! I’m so happy that I got to come visit you this year, and so thankful for being a part of your life. Thank you so much for letting me stay and for being my personal tour guide! I hope that I can come back sometime soon, and that we can enjoy each others’ company for years to come.

Sounds like a fun weekend! I’m visiting your city for the first time in November and I’m really looking forward to it!
Having a dear friend visit is the best thing ever! I will admit that now I want to visit you even more :)
Hosting dear friends in your home and showing them your city is truly a special event. It’s a reminder not only why you love living where you do, but also why you choose to surround yourself by such amazing people. You have a good life, Kyla … it’s great to see your ability to appreciate it!
Awwww….so glad you have a lovely weekend. It’s always wonderful when friends come to visit. I can’t wait to see the piercing. I love her tattoo. It’s so cute.
This sounds perfect, Kyla. I am so happy that you could show your friend your hometown.
I’m still waiting for one of my friends to make it out to CA so that I can show them around in the city that I call home now. Isn’t it ridiculous that I’ve lived in CA for more than 8 years and nobody – besides my family – has visited me here? Makes me think…
I love this! I’m so glad you had a great time. This further solidifies the fact that I need to come visit your city too =)
Love it when friends come to visit! And you guys seem to have had a great time, yay! :)
Oh so sweet, glad you gals had a lovely weekend.
So so glad you had such a wonderful weekend!!
So glad you had such a good weekend! Can’t wait to really see the new piercing!
