A Weekend of Puppies, Perogies & Freckled Nests
This week has been one of my busiest in a long time! I started going to a knitting group full of young, fun women in a beautiful space downtown. It was great to break out my needles and work on a project over cupcakes, korean food and great conversation. I tried to beat the heat and stay away from the mosquitoes- I’m convinced that if they bite my tattoo it will mess up them finishing it on Friday! On Saturday I was a model for some really cool local photographers I’m going to start shooting with, and we staged a wedding where I was the bride. It was a lot of fun & I can’t wait to see the pictures! On Sunday we hung out with my Dad on the deck, eating perogies and trying to keep the puppies out of the garden.
But that’s not the whole story of my weekend. And if you don’t mind, I’d like to gush a little.
On Friday I met up with one of my idols & teachers, one of those people you never quite hope to really meet: Leigh-Ann from Freckled Nest. LA has a beautiful blog and an incredible online following, and she works as a full time artist and creative whirlwind. Her blog always picks me up and inspires me, and after taking an Indie Business class from her in the spring I was shocked to realize that she lived in my little prairie city. We’ve been planning something exciting that we’ll be announcing this week, and meeting her in person was wonderful, surreal and really exciting!
So much so that I might have tried to suppress a “omg! squee!!” fangirl noise when when she hugged me, because I’m cool and collected like that.
You can find her at her blog & teaching Summer Camp with Red Velvet Art, and she’s every ounce the positive, savvy, and heartfelt lady you know her to be. All that, and a lot more :)
I think it’s really cool when we get to meet people from the blogosphere … especially ones we might just idolize. Cannot wait to hear your announcement!
i loved meeting you Kyla! I think you are one of the most splendid girls in Winnipeg, can’t wait to hang out more and make our announcement :)
xoxo, LA
I am always so fascinated by how busy your or better by how many different things you can fit in your day or weekend. I truly admire you for that. It seems like all I do is homework and chores. Haha.
I squee of joy every time I meet someone from the interwebs IRL. It’s like a secret we bloggers have; something that no one who’s not “plugged in” can ever really get.
<3
Sounds perfect!
…and I want to play dress-up in wedding gowns. That’d be so much fun. So much fun.
I’d love to see the “wedding pictures”! Sounds like you had a lovely & productive weekend!
What a fun weekend! Remember to post a picture of the bridal photo shoot.
Sounds like an amazing weekend! I love when you meet people that you’ve read for so long and have a fangirl moment. Love!
sounds like a fabulous weekend and love the pics, so summery and fun.
knitting?! aahh, i want to learn so bad! it just seems like once you get the hang of it, it becomes such a peaceful and relaxing thing. my great grandmother did it everyday when i was a kid and i have such fond memories of her sitting on the porch and telling me stories about her younger years while she knit. :)
How very neat to meet one of your idols, and get to work with them. I hope it goes well for you. And do post those model pictures.
Aww how exciting!!!! Looking forward to your announcement!!<333
wow. so jealous you met leigh-ann. a combo of coolness with both of you ladies.
your dad must be so proud of you! not just for the perogies, of course! :)
I’m pretty sure if (when) I meet you I will be suppressing an “OMG! Squeel!” fangirl noise as well ;)
Glad you had such a fabulous weekend! LOVE the perogie picture.
TOO cute. Am still squeeing.
Your weekend sounds darling, and I can’t wait to hear about it! Hope you’re around tonight!
I am very excited for you :) *wink*
It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend!I can’t wait to hear what you and LA have cooked up. And I am only slightly jealous you have a cool knitting group.
Busy girl! Sounds like a whole lotta fun. And jealous you got to hang with L.A.!
Your photography is amazing!
That’s so cool that you got to meet one of your idols! I know what you mean when you come across someone that you just admire so much – and somehow you get to meet them, it’s like a dream :)!!
Can’t wait to hear what you guys are cooking up – sounds exciting!!
Lovely weekend! And I really like the simple details of your blog graphics.
really wish i had some perogies now… we have a great polish market in houston that i love going to (but only once or twice a year because it’s just that dangerous to the whole fitting in my clothes thing)
Did you make the pierogi yourself? I lived in Poland for two years and am a huge fan, but have yet to make them myself! Maybe this needs to be changed…
I did! They’re very simple, but because you have to make the dough & filling, and then roll them out & assemble, and then cook them it takes a chunk of time!
I only make them a couple of times a year but you can find the recipe here. What I did this time was cooked the first dozen, and then froze the last few dozen so I can boil & cook them whenever I like. They’re really tasty, but this way we don’t have to rush & can enjoy them for a long time :)
Mosquitoes are AWFUL this year!! I think we need to work on living in bubbles so we can actually go outside. I got a bite on the bottom of my foot that drove me bonkers all weekend. So fun you went to a knitting group :)
That sounds like a completely delightful weekend, but honestly, I’m most excited about the idea of perogies! I can’t wait to see some of those pictures!
Sounds like you’ve been busy! I’d really like to see the pictures, sounds like fun :) A knitting club sounds so nice! I’m going to search for one around my area. And I would probably be so ridiculous if I met a blogger in real life, I’m just so awakward!
I’m totally with you, meeting anyone from the internet is always a little awkward- but I kind of love that about it! Talking to another blogger is like being in a secret club that no one around you knows about :)
I want to hear more about this modeling gig! I had no idea and think it’s totally awesome. You really do have it going on, my friend :)
You’re way too sweet! It was definitely not a gig- just some friends hanging out with camera, and definitely not my strong suit!
We’re going to go take pictures of the big local fair at night soon and I’ll be a LOT more excited for that than for being in front of the camera lol
I can’t wait to hear you new exciting news!! I have no doubts it will be fantastic and all sorts of amazingly cool (because really, where you two are involved, how could it be anything but?). Your weekend sounds fabulous.
Mine was a mix of busy-ness and moments of reflective downtime. I’d say it was a pretty near perfect weekend.
I wish I lived close enough to go to that knitting group with you!!
Sounds like a fansastic weekend. Can you share photos of you in the wedding dress? I’d love to see them!! I bet it was fun to play ‘dress up’ in a wedding gown! :)
I definitely can, I just got a couple of them this morning- when I have a few more I’ll play show and tell :)
Maybe in August we can form our own bi-annual knitting club, we’ll meet in August & May every year! lol
How awesome about meeting your idol! I can’t wait to see what you guys have in store for later this week!
How super fantastic! Looking forward to what you two are cooking up!
Thanks so much! It’s very surreal, but I’m excited to fill you in on all the details soon :)
It’s so lovely that you got to meet one of your idols! And I can’t wait to read about your tattoo update! :)
