A Creative Life: Kaylah from The Dainty Squid
I’m in love with the idea of intentionally creating a unique life- hearing the stories of people who are in the process of creating inspired lives for themselves is fascinating, and always a learning experience for me. I’m excited to share those stories here through the Creative Life interviews!
I’m excited to be interviewing one of my favourite bloggers & business owners today- Kaylah from The Dainty Squid! Kaylah has created a gorgeous life brimming with her personal style, love of thrifting, sweet cats & a beautiful handmade business that she shares with readers every day.
Please tell us a little about yourself, your business & your blog!
Hi! I’m Kaylah, a girl with ever-changing hair, a love for felines, photography and thrifting. I live in a little town in Ohio with my fiance and our four cats. I run a small business, called The Dainty Squid, where I sell pouches and clutches. I also run a blog under the same name where I write about my daily adventures and share lots of photos.
Have you always had a passion for sewing and using your hands, or was it something that you discovered on your own as you were growing up?
I’ve always had a passion for making things and using my hands. As long as I can remember I’ve been making things- be it paper crowns for everyone at Christmas get together when I was six or seven, plushies when I was a teen or bags now. I’m actually really curious to see what kind of creative endevours I gain an interest in as I get older.
What does a normal working day in your life look like?
A normal day starts with me waking up around 6, drinking a biiiig glass of chocolate milk, checking emails, spending time with my cats before venturing into my craft room to decide what I’d like to do that day. My days are normally pretty chill, I spend a lot of time watching movies while working and dancing during breaks!
Balancing blogging, your business & your home life must be tough! How do you manage it, and has how you manage it changed from when you first started out?
Oh, absolutely. The hardest thing for me is working while the house is a mess. If I know something is out of place in the living room or there is a bunch of laundry waiting for me to do then I have trouble working. So, something I’m still working on perfecting is mixing home life into work. Sew a little, clean a little, repeat. Relationship wise I have no problem mixing home life and work, I simply work while my fiance is at work and get off when he gets home. It works out perfectly!
Thanks so much Kaylah!
